I've heard that Cindy Fredrick was at UVA's bowl game as a guest of the university. Has she already been hired? And if so...
...why?

I've heard that Cindy Fredrick..... ...why? Due diligence would be nice.

If Virginia hires Cindy Fredrick, there should be an investigation.

Would someone explain to me why she would be such a bad hire for UVa. I know she didn't have a great record at Iowa and had a terrible 2007 season, but she seems to have done a pretty good job at Washington State. Why was she so much more successful at WSU than at Iowa. If she does go to UVa does she have any chance of doing well?
I know very little about volleyball and I love my hoos, so I'm curious to know these answers.
Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance I'd like some speculation on that, too, as she seems to be one of the least respected coaches on Volleytalk, and I don't know why. I know they had a string of losses this year that was incredible and that her husband, who has a doctorate, is always her assistant coach.

Thanks in advance Some people are a little skeptical because she's had so many clashes with her players in the past and an inordinate number of transfers. Apparently she had her success at Washington State when the other programs in the Pacific Northwest were bad and didn't have much competition for the talented but lesser known recruits in the area. There are a few things I've heard about her that I won't go into detail, but apparently she's rubbed a lot of people the wrong way over the years. www.dailyevergreen.com/story/8507Of course her husband has to come as a package deal. He's known for having an extremely high technical proficiency and good teaching skills.

The issue is not her ability to coach and I think the fact that her last two teams were not winning is also secondary. She has really broken two programs down. Poor performance, low morale, people leaving. That is the issue, and it should be.

I like the newspaper quote about not treating the players equally. Justice and parity are difficult attributes for some coaches and is probably more a reflection of character than skill.

I don't know Cindy Frederick any of the players in this article. But come on, "not treating players fairly "and some of these other comments from the players are becoming way too common it seems. Again, this is not a personal thing o this situation as much as it is an overall trend, but any coach who has ever coached at a remotely high level has been accused of "having favorites", being unfair with playing time, being too hard on players. Now she may be over the top, I didn't play for her in college, but readers need to understand that the truth usually lies somewhere in the middle between the coach being crazy and players being upset over a coach challenging them or just plain being soft. It is the culture we are rasing. This is a general comment, but one should not jump to conclusions based on "unhappy" players.

I haven't heard any criticisms (and so many player defections) quite like I've heard about Cindy Fredrick.

It would be a stunning hire for sure. It would be one thing if the job simply lacked quality candidates, but it doesn't. I just can't see this happening. I do know there is an absolute ton of booster money that hangs in the balance with this hire. Anyone who know much about UVA volleyball knows, that over a million bucks has been provided by a vb booster to upgrade the facility and at least that much has been promised if a quality coach is hired.

I've heard coaches say that they wouldn't let a kid go to Iowa with out saying something to them about her coaching ability, even before they address her coaching style.
