What a battle going on tonight! USC wins set one 32 - 30 Hawaii wins set two 33-31 Set three in progress with the score tied at 22
If USC wins I believe they get to host Stanford first round. If Hawaii wins they become the spoiler and USC will travel instead.
I am trying to stay awake for the rest of the match. More updates to follow.

Hawaii wins set four and the match . . . Score of set four wat 38-27
Nice win for Hawaii. I think this means that Stanford hosts USC in the palyoffs.

hawaii plays spoiler - i guess not totally surprised, it is the mpsf - and would have to think stanford would be favored over usc for the playoffs, since at home and after they took care of ucla ... I might have thought the opposite if usc would have won this match
would be interested to hear any thoughts on the playoffs

TRi Bourne once again did USC in.. IF USC had another capable hitter next to TRoy and Ciarelli who knows how good the Trojans would be.. I can't wait for Maddison Mckibbin next year.

30...you are fickle. I recall one of your earlier posts when you thought that Tri was the great white hope... and when he came back...what happened?
Do you mean to tell me with the way SC touts all its great recruiting classes for the past 3 years and a bench 30 feet deep they have no other hitters? You are waiting for another high school kid to arrive? And next year's excuse will be that he's just an underclassman. Yeah right.
GET A GRIP! Ferguson has now been outcoached by UCSD, UCLA, Hawaii...and well, you wouldn't expect him to beat CSUN, UCI or Pepp. But Hawaii???
Once again, SC has gotten WORSE as the season has progressed. Too bad, all of that talent, all the hype.
Let's see, now

The past two nights, the player that I enjoyed watching was Strotman. I hope he returns next season.

I don't know how you can claim UCLA outcoached him though. Tri BOurne hit .500 against UCLA and USC did beat both UCLA and UCSD at home easily. You also forgot to mention UCLA is actually probably more talented than USC and the mighty AL scates barely got them in the playoffs.

Outcoachaed=UCLA won. Great recruiting classes? You should read your own posts. Make up your mind.

My stance is that USC is a young, talented team. Nothing more, nothing less.

SC's no younger than any other team. They play younger players-that's the only difference. Some are good, others, not so good-e.g. Bourne & Dennis. They have plenty of upper classmen-that's the coaches' choice to play the younger players.
So when they lose 5 of the last 6 matches it's because they have a young team. OK....whatever works for you. The real problem is when they are losing, there is no change in strategy and they are really easy to play against, particularly as the season moves on and every half way decent coach figures out exactly what to do to beat them. Hawaii? UCSD? Now you think UCLA is good. The only difference is they have played better as the season has gone on. SC has gotten worse. Look at the results.

volleyone - I'd have to say you bring up some fairly valid points --- and I'd assume you'd pick USC to lose, or at least be an underdog vs Stanford .... also what do you think of their talent and chances next year? are they really just one player away, like Mckibben #2, or is it more than that?? ... have to think they stay around 4-5 next year too ...
