Do you really think the majority of coaches in the country believe Purdue is the 2nd best team in the Big10? They may be, but I don't think that's what they believe. So WHY ARE THEY VOTING THAT WAY?? Do you think the majority of coaches think UCLA will win the Pac10 this year? I don't think they do. So why are they the top rated Pac10 school? The answer is that they are locked into their choices after the preseason poll. You make it sound like someone's holding a gun to their heads or something. Why even worry about it? It'll all come out in the wash in the end. If that's the case why are you so worried about it? FWIW: Its more likely someone is holding the AVCA poll voting guidelines to their heads. I'm not sure which if the guidelines would do more physical damage than a gun though. I guess the details may lie the type of gun, whether the gun is loaded, and which end of the gun is being held to their heads.

Pistols? How about pies? Not even real pies but the shaving cream type.
There is no way to compare teams across the country. There's the top 3 or 4 then the rest.
By in the end, I mean there'll be one champion and the rest is just words. Doesn't matter.

Anyone else wondering how Pepperdine is holding on to #23. They're 6-6 with the only "quality" win over Cal Poly in 5. Discuss.

If that's the case why are you so worried about it? Every week it's the same thing. Might as well fan the flames. He must have it on auto-post by now. Ruffda thinks the poll is flawed. Check. We've got it. Thanks.

I feel the stick again. I am sorry I am boring you. Just imagine what it is like for my family.
Pepperdine was 2-0 last week. They aren't going to fall...

(R)uffda I guess my question should have been how did Pepperdine get there in the first place?

With the risk of boring Ultravision (and his aliases), they were ranked #19 to start the season (#18 to end 2005). They didn't lose to anyone ranked below them and they beat Cal Poly. Voila! It's actually amazing they've dropped in the poll...

It's actually amazing they've dropped in the poll... They've also been a bit unlucky losing in 5 games to Hawaii twice, and USC. They would probably be close to the top 10 if they had won all those. I still think Pepp will win the WCC this year BTW.

With the risk of boring Ultravision Oh no. Don't mind me, Grand Poobah. Answer the lad's question so he can bask in the light of your knowledge. But, volleynut, if that doesn't do it for you, just chalk it up to magic. Always works for me.

We've got it. Thanks. Except you claimed he wasn't doing the same thing in past years when in fact he has been so you're contradicting yourself. Plus, he isn't the only person by any means that makes regular complaints about the AVCA poll. You comments IMO appear to show more of a chip on your should about (R)uffda! than the ship on his should about the AVCA poll.

Can Gorp or Ruffy help me locate some of the earlier posts in which Ruffy was critical of the AVCA poll when Minnesota was ranked higher than expected? I am having a difficult time finding any confirmation of this. How bad did Minnesota and Wisconsin beat up on Ohio State and Purdue last season?

Purdue split with both Minnesota and Wisconsin last year...Purdue beat Wisconsin at Madison late in the year. The next few weeks will answer the questions in the "middle" group in the Big Ten as Purdue gets the shot at both Minnesota and Wisconsin a week from now! Ruffda will then be able to state his case or shut it!

Do you agree that a conference schedule where every team plays every other team home and away is probably going to give you the best indication of the relative strengths of those conference teams?
And who the heck is bulldog3? An obvious alias for someone else... But to answer his question, he is right: all I care about is the Gophers. I am nothing more than a homer. Alas.
