NOTE: CHANGE OF TIME -- 6:00 PM Start Time instead of 7:00 pm -- Ya know, I used to hate double-headers... they are starting to grow on me. I might be a little late, depending on how well we are able to review the video tape to find the bastards that stole my wife's bicycle. I predict no-contest win by Hawaii, however, they may drop a game. However... if Notre Dame becomes a strong blocking and savvy tipping team like they did for a stretch in last night's match... well, Hawaii can respond, let's see how well they do. GO RAINBOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why did Notre Dame schedule this trip? Does this make sense?

Why did Notre Dame schedule this trip? Does this make sense? Yeah... Dave wanted some tough competition during WAC season when both teams expected to be performing better at this point and Notre Dame accepted because they were able to treat their players to a few days in paradise!

Notre Dame played DePaul on Friday, probably travels Saturday, practice Sunday, play Monday and Tuesday, leave Wednesday and probably get home Thursday, UConn Friday and St. John's Saturday...that's not good scheduling. Notre Dame should be more concerned about the Big East than running off to paradise.

ND is out of school this week so that's why they were able to come during the middle of the week. AFAIK they are flying out tonight on the redeye, that's why the match was moved up 1 hour to 6 p.m. to accomodate their travel plans.

This is fall break for ND, so they're not missing any school. St. John's is on Sunday, not Saturday, there's a home football game on Saturday. If UConn isn't particularly competitive, I'd guess the Irish can be relatively recovered in time for the real test on Sunday.

A lot of teams want to travel to Hawaii but don't get that chance. Hawaii tries to bring down top 10 teams during the preseason (Stanford, UCLA, Florida, etc.). Norte Dame is a team that is a pretty consistent top 25 team but hasn't been able to make that move into being an elite team. For a team like that, a trip to Hawaii won't be the main reason a recruit choses that school, but is definitely a nice bonus for the athletes. Also, this trip could have been scheduled several years ago when teams like Louisville were not in their conference. Notre Dame tends to dominate the Big East and a trip to Hawaii is a way of improving their schedule. Also, Hawaii is typcially always ranked above Notre Dame. A split in Hawaii would make this a good trip.

Well, if they keep thinking that way, I'm sure Pitt, St. John's, Louisville, and Cincy will be very happy. It still strikes me as a stupid trip to take mid-conference.

And what is a fall break in an academic schedule? What is it for? It's a week off in the middle of the semester, to give everyone a break. Y'know, like we get in the spring too. I have no idea how prevalent it is. My undergrad was on the quarter system when I was there, so we didn't get mid-term breaks.
