I agree Lilred. NU fans are sharp about volleyball and realized it was not going to be easy to replace 3 AA's. I for one am pleasantly surprised at how well they have performed . The win at TExas is going to be significant for their confidence. Texas brought there A game and NU took them head on in a hostile atmosphere. Shows a ton of character. To address BIK's comment......... Do not feel sorry for the Huskers. They get to perfrom and sport they love in an electric atmosphere game in and out and are recognized all over the state by thousands. The fans also recognize and appreciate their efforts on the court and in the classroom. Sounds like a pretty great place to play volleyball to me.

I am glad they got challenged. It's good for them to have it reinforced that they're going to have to work for it this year. It's a little bit of reinforcement that they CAN tough out the more challenging matches when they come up. And Texas has been running wild mood swings of hot and cold, so I am glad it was the fired-up Texas that showed up last night instead of the gang that couldn't shoot straight. They have so much talent, they should be doing so much better than they have been in some matches, so it's nice to see that come out. It's got to be good for their confidence too to show what they can really do.

John Cook had an intersting comment about Destinee Hooker on the post-game radio show. JB said that we should punch Hooker's ticket for 2008 right now, but Cook said that she wouldn't ever play international volleyball unless Texas let's her play back-row. Without learning how to dig and pass at an elite level, she would never get to the international ranks. He continued to say that that is why he plays Pavan backrow, because she is going to play internationally and needs to develop those skills, that part of his job is not only to coach these players to be winners now, but also to prepare those players who will play professionally. I know another coach, hint hint, from the Big West who has ALWAYS had that philsophy.....congrats John, you learn well.. AND IT AIN'T THE FAT BLONDE FROM ucsb!

Those of you who got the match on TV........out of curiosity how did Busboom and Schwartz look for defense? The Husker defense is OK at best. A lot of balls dropping in front of the defense. It seems that the Huskers cross court defenders play way too deep and balls keep landing in front of them. Even though this part of the game has improved, it is still not good enough. Texas played far better defense than the Huskers.

Holloway may be the difference maker for the Huskers. She compete's. Two things stick out in my mind. One, when she went back to serve, the crowd starting chanting "Sarah was better" referring to her sister who played at Texas. She immdetiately served an ace and turned to the crowd and pumped her fist. I love that. On match point up 14-13 Texas serves, the whole Texas team and crowd was focused on Pavan, Holloway gets a low pass, drops to a knee and sets a quick to Stalls. Texas didn't even move, they were so suprised by the choice. She has some big huevos for a young player.

Holloway is my new favorite setter. She is different than the commonplace setter these days (sweetly clap clap clap come on team clap clap clap smile sweetly tap on my chest my bad). She plays like an athlete instead of a cheerleader, and if her hitters are making mistakes, she's not all sweet about it. The thing that really irritated me last night was that Pavan kept signaling her to 'get the set higher'. What a cop out. Pavan had so many errors that were completely unforced, no way should she have been doing the 'blame' thing. I saw the fist pump at the crowd. Made me grin ear to ear. My new favorite hitter is Hooker. I love enthusiasm. I gag and roll my eyes when coaches or anyone else talk about how great it is when players don't get too up or down. I love celebrating. Hooker at one point looked like a football player after a big play with her little dance. Love it! What an athlete. She has some big huevos for a young player.

I think it is pretty impressive that Nebraska will now probably run the table in the regular season after unexpectedly losing the national player of the year. At least Texas was able to give them a challenge. I wish it had been on tv somewhere where I could see it. It was live on ESPNU, DirecTV channel 609. Maybe they also do re-runs.

I have to agree with the comments on Rachel Holloway. She has been super impressive this year, and a freshman at that! So much potential with this young woman, it's exciting to think about. How nice it feels to know that we don't have to worry about the setter position until 2010.

I think Holloway is a legitimate candidate for conference FOY and POY. Big statement I know, but I think she is. Pavan's numbers aren't great, Hooker only play's front row, and hasn't dominated night in and night out in the conference.

Pavan had so many errors that were completely unforced, no way should she have been doing the 'blame' thing. I saw the fist pump at the crowd. She has some big huevos for a young player. I also watched the match last night and Pavan was not signalling to Holloway at all. It seemed that Pavan was frustrated with herself, accepted full responsibility for her performance and put the blame on no one. Give her credit, because as frustrated as she was, she kept it coming and turned it around. The sets to Pavan in game 5 were the same as they were in games 1 to 4, but obviously something kicked in because she was a different player in this game than she was in the others. Stop trying to create controversy where none exists. On a more positive note, it was great to see the character that the Huskers displayed. Things were not going well, but they remained workmanlike the whole match. They just kept plugging away, believing in themselves and put in a good, honest effort, even though it wasn't pretty to watch. This team may not be as dominant as last years, but I like their fight.

Well I definitely did see her telling the setter to set higher after a couple of mistakes on her part. One can't see everything, so perhaps you missed it. Yes, Pavan did step up in the 5th. Hopefully for Nebraska she learns how to play up to her potential at the beginning of matches, or your team has the potential to lose earlier than expected in the tournament. Still, terrific team and very entertaining to watch.

"Holloway took over the match" is a direct quote from Pavan after the match. I don't see anything wrong with Pavan signaling to get the ball up. Players have to be comfortable sharing info that isn't always "warm and fuzzy" I can assure you Holloway has the self-esteem to handle it. She also has the self-esteem to tell her to "stick it in her ear" if she thinks it is out of line. I think Pavan was giving her the high sign, but even if she wasn't it would look to me like two competitors doing what they needed to win.
