This is just how the NCAA works, apparently. I would have seeded Florida over Texas, easily. I guess it is in Albany so one team is at home and Siena, which is a few miles away, can take a couple of vans. You might not even need to pay for gas that way. St. John's can bus. Minnesota can fly to a lot of places and drive in. Yay, saving money! Seriously, this is why the NCAA is a joke. I would imagine there are a lot of flights from the east coast to Minneapolis, so those teams could actually have a real tournament experience and go play in front of a big crowd at a deserving host school, but that would cost a little more. Minnesota got screwed on hosting, end of story. I thought Wisconsin might end up going east, but I guess they dislike Minnesota more. Oh, wait, I just remembered: UWM would have to fly to Minneapolis. Gopher fans might want to root against them as well as the Badgers in the future if they want to see NCAA matches.

In answer to the question, no, Minnesota did put in a big. Last week, Coach Hebert as much as told the Minnesota Daily -- the student paper -- that the Gophers would be hosting first and second rounds.

These teams were able to host the 1st/2nd rounds last year as well: Nebraska, TN, FL, UCLA, USC, Penn St, Louisville, TX, Wisconsin and Stanford. New sites are: Albany, Arkansas, Long Beach St, Colorado, Cal Poly and Purdue(?). You'd think they could switch the sites up a bit more like send Wisconsin on the road and let MN host. OK, my ranting is done!

Wisconsin is another darling of the selection Committee, although not as obvious as Penn State.

5 seeded Big 10 teams and the 2nd highest seed doesn't host. Who says success pays?!

I'm so confused about why MN doesnt get regionals? Do they not bid for them?? Does the committee not really care about attendace or facilities? So sad I wont be able to see them play live again this year. Minnesota definitely bids on them. Apparently, we are in the "dead zone." The only way we'll get to host is if we have a pre-determined regional OR if Wisconsin is unseeded. Then they schedule the matches on THU/FRI which makes it even harder for Gopher fans to get there. So how close is St. Johns to Albany? As long as the people running this thing treat it like a Mickey Mouse sport, it will BE a Mickey Mouse sport. There is aboslutely NO consistency in their decisions.

So how close is St. Johns to Albany? St Johns volleyball arena is on the Queens, NY campus. So they're about 165 miles away from Albany. Siena is something like five miles away from Albany. Minnesota is 1220 miles away, as the crow drives.

Well personally I am very disappointed as I will not see the Gophers play any more matches unless they make the regional final and I can watch it on ESPNU. I will really miss our 4 seniors and am very sad that I won't get to see them play one more time at The Pav!

Don't think I didn't think if Sarah Pavan had gone to MN how funny it would be....she missed a great promotional opporunity to see THE PAV at THE PAV!

There's too many things that want to bite and/or eat Minnesotans in Gainesville. We prefer that our pests be tiny, with wings.
(And I, for one, ain't looking past St Johns (although I am looking past Siena -- sorry)).

And with regard to a dead Zone?
How do you get to Purdue...
or Albany?
or Omaha.
How many airline seats and motel rooms are available? Can you fly direct to Omaha?
What about Hawaii..where do visiting fans stay..how much does it cost them to travel?
The only DEAD zone is with certain NCAA committee members that need to go.

The Minnesota, St. John's, Albany, Sienna bracket is really eating away at me. It's making me sick. It's not Minnesota's fault, of course, and yet, I can't help punishing and hating on Minnesota fans. It's a strange psychological phenomenon.
