From the matches they've lost, St. Johns gets outblocked by a big margin. If Minnesota has their blocking on, they should have no problem.
USC outblocked them 16-5, Notre Dame 13-4, LSU 11-1 and Florida 16.5-3.

The only thing I can say is that (R)uffda!, BiK, and Wolfgang being only on the committee by themselves arguing constantly couldn't have done as poorly as this NCAA committee has done (this year and the past few years before that) without intentionally trying to screw things up.

Words quoted from two MN Gophers:
Senior middle blocker Meredith Nelson "I think as a senior it is disappointing to know that we will not get the opportunity to play in the NCAA Tournament in front of our great fans at the Sports Pavilion. However, that is the only thought I really have about where we play. I think the main part for us is to be focused in our preparation and be ready to play at a high level in the NCAA Tournament."
Senior libero Malama Peniata "It reminds me a little bit of 2004 when we played in New Haven, Conn. We did a good job of focusing that year and putting forth our best effort in 2004, and that will be our main focus again this year. We wish we could play at the Sports Pavilion in front of all our great fans, but no matter where we play we are excited to prepare to play at a high level in the NCAA Tournament."
And after the media relations person escorted the media out of the room, this is what was heard.........
Words NOT quoted and what they really wanted to say:
So this is what we get? We the seniors: Nelson, Penita, Bowman, Cumpston, have tied the best regular season record here at the University of Minnesota... We have the best senior class ever (ok, tied)...... we have great fans here in MN, who continue to support womens Volleyball, we have what the fourth or fifth highest attendance in the country, and we have to go to fricking Albany to play the first and second rounds? Where there will be what 300 fans?
We don't get it. We beat Wisconsin at home, AND IN Wisconsin, we almost beat Penn State, and this is what we get. ? Why does Wisconsin get to play at home.. ok ok...we shouldn't have played in that grass tournament in Wisconsin, we GET IT! Drop the grudge already.
We are not afraid to play Florida, or Nebraska, we are just upset for all the fans who love volleyball, and they wont be able to watch us this post season.
Think positive Gopher fans....we took a game from Nebraska this year, without our libero....if we can make it to the Final Four, Omaha is not far....

Can't believe it's been four years already for Nelson and Bowman. It seems like just yesterday that we were talking about these new frosh. And who can forget that shiner that Neslon got in the tourney from Ms. Gordon....

It seems like Meredith has be plagued by annoying injuries during each of her 4 years with the Gophers. Various doses of things like shin splints, ankle sprains, black eyes. Nothing season ending, and always things she played through, however, painful (and likely distracting while playing) nonetheless. It always seems, though, that after every player has come down to the last matches of their careers that it seems like they just join the team only a short time ago. Still, we move on and find more player we'll really miss seeing play on their home court in each of the following years. In some respects while being a "sad" moment it allows us to start paying more attention to the "next generation" of players for our teams and it's exciting to seem the new players progress. Until we have to say goodbye to them as well... The past ~20 seasons since I first became a Gopher season ticket holder seem to have passed very quickly.

Just did a quick check on Albany. In 7 home matches including the America East Tournament Albany drew 1,234 fans. Total. An average of 176 fans/game.
Sounds like a volleyball hotbed!

A) Albany and Siena are about 8 minutes apart, so you are actually getting two home teams. Thats a 33% cut in the budget for hotels, meals, etc. Also, you get two home teams worth of fans so the attendence should be good. Albany has a volleyball only facility and resurfaced the floor so it should be a pretty good place to play.
B) Albany International Airport has direct service to Baltimore, Philly, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Chicago, Orlando, Vegas (none of which have teams in the tournament) and MINNEAPOLIS! So why ship Minnesota instead of Wisconsin? Because it is a direct flight.
If you check, I'd bet that there is direct service from Seattle to Denver, Honolulu to LA, and other flights that explain some of the other teams getting shipped out.
Not that this will make you feel any better, but that is why this was done. I actually thought they might send LSU or Washington up here.

Doesn't FL usually webcast their volleyball matches? If so, does anyone know if the NCAA will allow FL to webcast the semi-final regional match if both MN and FL are in it? I know this would make me less angry about this whole traveling the 1st/2nd rounds thing, but not much.

I'm sure this will happen, but we'll know for sure sometime next week, assuming both teams make it. If Florida is playing, I am sure it will be webcast or televised, there will be some video available.
