So, if I understand the situation correctly, Ailes's scholarship was pulled to give to Klineman. (Correct me if that's wrong.)
Does anyone know if her letter of intent provided for that possibility? Does it change her obligation to Stanford, now that she has to pay her own way the first year? Does she care? Or does the lure of Stanford's vb program and education outweigh the scholarship issue (if it is one)....
Does a scholarship open up for her after next year?
(I'm not asking in the hope that she'll come back to Nebraska. I know that won't ever happen. Just curious, is all.)

The word I hear is that she didn't sign a letter of intent. Sounds like she's walking on. She may have been promised a scholarship in the future, similar to Candace Lee at Washington.

I have read from a Lincoln, Nebraska paper that Gabi Ailes is walking on for the 1st 2 years and then will scholarship the last 2 years. She plans on studying Electrical Engineering at Stanford.
Same paper also said that she turned down a 4-year scholarship to both Missouri (where sister plays) and Nebraska to go to Stanford.

Gabi Alies never had a scholarship offer for the first two years. When she committed, she knew that she would have walk on for the first two years and that the third four-year scholarship was waiting for Klineman. Ailes will get a scholarship as a junior and senior. So Ailes' scholarship was not pulled because Klineman committed - Coach Dunning would never pull such an unethical stunt like that.

Gabi and her family were well aware they wouldn't be scholarshiped the first 2 seasons.

Thanks for the correction, guys. I was truly curious. I wasn't trying to impugn Dunning.

I was told, Gabi was offered a scholarship from NU and declined. Gabi then talked with Stanford and was told no money right away. Gabi returned to NU and was told her scholarship offer had been given to someone else. Back to Stanford. IF Brooke Bartek transfer which I predict, would Gabi stay home?? I doubt it.

Gabi was Stanford all the way even though she and her parents knew it was just 2 scholarship years.

Stanford is lucky they landed her w/ a 2 yr scholarship. If they had lost out on her, I would call Dunning and company the dumbest people on the planet. The libero position has been holding them back as far back as the creation of the position (granted they still won titles, but think of how many more they might have collected if they had a Candace Lee, Gentil, or a Zartman). Who else pursued Ailes? That's got to be a slap in the face for the other schools to lose a recruit to a partial scholarship.

Mizzou and Nebraska definitely pursued her. I don't know who else pursued her or who made her short list. Eov or lilred, do you know?

I know she has told people from day one that she's wanted to get far away to play vb, so I'm not sure she's slapping any faces to play vb at Stanford. I was told that supposedly Mizzou told her she could play OH and play all the way around. I don't know if I believe that or not. As I stated earlier I was told NU offered her a full scholarship and she said no, I was also told that she came back to NU when there was no money immediately available from Stanford and was told sorry, it's gone. At the high school level she's the best passer/defender I've ever seen. We(including me) all assume she can make an immediate impact at the D1 level. Time will tell on that.

It's great to have Gabi Ailes in the Stanford's family. Period. Maybe she would be offered a scholarship after her first year. If she can go to Stanford and pay her own way, her family should be quite well-off. Heck, they may not even need any scholarship.

Ailes, wanted to go to Stanford from the get go. She believed she would be getting a scholarship from Stanford. When she realized it would only be after 2 years, she approached Nebraska, who had offered to someone else. She is where she wanted to be, Stanford gets a good player, Nebraska got a good player.

Well... I am going to be the one that is not politically correct today. I cannot imagine growing up in the heart of Husker Volleyball country and choosing another school over Nebraska. It would be like growing up in the backyard of Stanford and watching Tom and Walsh and then choosing Nebraska. Good luck to Gabi. I think she's crazy but it is her choice.
