Some people get very testy when their teams don't even have a chance to choke at the top levels. ;D Ya know, it sure is obvious you are an LBSU fan.

With All-Americans Houston and Sanders returning next season, does anybody think Hittle will be back 100%. It was mentioned in one of the games that Hittle's injury might be more serious than thought. Anybody?

I thought it was Keefe's injury that might've been worse than originally expected, but I could be wrong. Are players on the All-America Honorable Mention list to really be considered All-Americans? I don't believe so, but I'm curious as to what others think. On my count, Hawaii will only have one returning All-American.

As far as I know Hittle should return at 100%. I don't think Honorable Mention's are considered all-American's, but, I wouldn't take it away from Mason and Sanders as they earned it, but I jus don't think the title of all-American follows you if you earn honorable mention since the list is so long.

Yes and No. Honorable Mentions were considered All-Americans before they added the All-American Third Team category. So, I can see why some would say that. HMs are not considered All-Americans.....not anymore.

Hawaii's modus operandi is speed and quickness. Poor passing undermined it in 2006. With Hittle and possibly Arnott back, two of the best passers in the team, along with Otineru, passing should be much better next year. I don't know if Kaufman will be/should be redshirted; she did a commendable job at the right side. She will be even better next year, more confident and comfortable. She jumps as high as Houston, and is as quick as Hittle. And she can bang the ball with the best of them. With a good setter I think the Wahine will be a solid team all around. I don't think anybody will disagree that Nebraska will be the team to beat next year with two POYs returning. They will have power and height advantage over most teams and certainly over Hawaii. In the event Hawaii should play them in the playoffs, Hawaii must rely on 1) good passing and 2) speed and quickness. Therein lies Hawaii's chance of beating Nebraska and winning its 5th title (4 NCAA). I envision Hawaii to be better next year. But so will Nebraska. But think positive, Hawaii fans. Nebraska will be slower than Hawaii.

pineapple, I can't find proof that Arnott is one of the best passers. When she was a starter in 2004, I recall her passing only twice - in the opening season match and the final three games vs. Wisconsin. She wasn't even a full-time passer because Hittle came in as a DS.
About next year, an All-American in Houston returns along with WAC honorees Gregory, Sanders, Kaufman and Lee. I hope Gregory finally improves her hitting numbers because it's the only thing hindering her from becoming a real force in the middle. Lee should step up her passing or someone else will take the libero job from her and I expect Kaufman to be a better player after her first season. She's a great blocker but her hitting numbers are mediocre.
Hittle, Thomas and Keefe will be back from injury and are all contenders for starting jobs. Hittle will be a real factor if she returns to her 2004 form. The past two years, she has been a mediocre OH and I understand that she was hurt both years, but with all the hype Shoji is building around her, I can't help but expect more from her. Thomas could be a real asset in the middle or at opposite if she stays healthy. Keefe's a great blocker but her hitting numbers are so-so. If she wants to win back her starting spot, she needs to improve her hitting and maybe learn to pass.
Walk-ons Woolford, Ong, Blood, Duggins, Kitaguchi and Recca are also expected to return while Mafua will be on the active roster after a year of training under Kamana'o. Woolford and Duggins saw a lot of time this year and really should improve big-time by next season - especially Woolford, who will be a senior. Ong should get back to her 2004 form (serving-wise) and improve her passing and defense if she wants to play at all next season. Blood has always done a good job in her limited court tenure, so I don't really undertand why she hasn't played more especially with all the struggles the team went through this season. Kitaguchi also needs to improve big-time on her passing and defense if she wants to see the court next year. Shoji might keep Recca around next year, but she'll probably never play.
Arnott still has a year left but I guess it's still a question mark if she will be returning as a Wahine. I heard she will be graduating in May.
Simmons and Ka'aihue will join the team. Will they be redshirted?

It really hurts when you can't advance out of a regional when it is hosted at home. It has happened to Nebraska before. I remember Hawaii fans bitching every year saying that the Whine would make the final 4 every year if they hosted regionals.
I do believe that those same Whine fans claimed that Nebraska would never advance to a FF if the regional wasn't in Lincoln.
Would they have beaten Stanford if the FF was in California (or at least a neutral site) who knows. But if you think people were booing Stanford, you are dead wrong. Great plays and rallys were applauded for both teams. The Quest center was extremely quiet (during rallys) until the last 10 points of game 4. There were a number of plays where I could hear both teams calling out their plays.
Anyway, it is going to snow in Nebraska this week (finally) and in a couple months the Huskers will start their preparation for a run at the title again. I respect coach Shoji and what he has done with his program. I find it amuzing how many Hawaii fans will build up their team year after year, and then blame everyone else when they drop out in the third round of the tournament.
I'm off to make some snowballs

Please read the title of this thread. Now, go find the correct one for you. And we don't need a weather report from the Midwest either. Thanks. Oh, I almost forgot. Next time please use the 'Spell Check' feature. Thanks again.

You are correct, they did not drop out of the tournament.
As for the spelling. People only get attacked for spelling when the point really hits home.
Like I said in my first post. My outlook for '07 for the Whine is still the same. Another conference championship against inferior competition and then a 3rd or 4th round loss followed by 2 weeks worth of finger pointing and blaming everyone else for the loss. In the mean time Nebraska and Stanford will duke it out for another championship.
(any spelling errors there?)
