I agree. Killingsworth in the middle!
Maja Gustin SHOULD'VE been an All-American MB. Unfortunately, she took one for the team and spent her Sophomore season swinging on the outside (an obviously uncomfortable place for her). Had she stayed in the middle, I have no doubt she would've been an All-American before Duggins.
Oh well, who are we to second guess the coaches, right? lol ... hell, isn't that what this board is for?

I disagree. Kisya stays at outside. A bird in hand is worth two in the bush. Mary will not be comfortable with a freshman starting at outside next year. Especially if they don't participate in Spring practice. Everything stays the same it just gets better.

So instead of having one shaky position, freshman or sophomore OH, you have 2 shaky position with Kisya (unnatural OH) and Johnson in the middle (not nearly as consistant). I just think that you have a very solid setter, OPP, 2 very solid middles and Hampton, you can loose a tiny bit on the OH with a new person stepping in and learning as the season progresses.

Kari's ankle never fully recovered from the injury she sustained last December. She is faced with the decision to have surgery again to tighten it up or live with a permanent disability. I don't know what her final decision will be. We should know after the holidays.

As far as the O2 situation goes at UF, a lot depends on Spring practice. Janine Williams will definitely compete for playing time this season. With a year of red shirting, she really has improved her game. At the same time I thought Kisya had really gotten into a groove at O2 at the end of the year. She had a great game against Minnesota. I still think Mary will not gamble with a freshman at O2 in 07.

Killingsworth was the O1 this past season. Mary has gambled with freshmen in the past, so I hope she will "gamble" again. Killingsworth was MUCH more effective in the middle. It also goes against the Florida "tradition" of having Outsides that play backrow.

<off topic slightly> Killingsworth is just a cool name for volleyball, isn't it? I always think it is a great name to have if you're a volleyball player. </off topic>

Yes, Killingsworth is a cool VB name...but it doesn't compare to Arial Salvo at Utah...might be the best VB name ever unless there a girl out there with a name like Digsalot, or Sixpack or Wicked Ace or something....

She was under the radar with no club experience but broke out this season finishing off as the CenTex POY & Texas All State team. She's a multi sport star in high school & just started her first JO season with Austin Juniors on the 18 Mizuno team. Might not see a lot of playing time in 2007 but she'll add depth after the loss of Armstrong & Todd.

I look for MN to start a little slow as they work to replace Cumpston, Bowman, Pienata, and Nelson. If they can survive their non-conference schedule without incurring too much damage (early indications include a road match at Notre Dame to open the season followed by a home tourney hosting Stanford, San Diego, and Ohio), they will do well in the conference. I just hope they don't have to open against PSU/OSU or WI/NW.
If the frosh can contribute and they firm up their passing, they should be a top 16 seed come NCAA tourney time.
And then get sent to some school in the east to play in front of 300 people.

Minnesota is going to be really young next year. Their top offensive threats returning are Kyla and Jones - they lose the top 2 hitters from this season, and their 2 best passers. The freshman will need to make an immediate impact to keep Minnesota in the range of a top 16 seed OR someone who is on the bench currently (like a Katie V or Hagerty) will need to step up. Though, the committee seems to have a love affair with seeding as many big ten teams as possible. If OSU and Purdue could get seeds this year, there's a good chance Minnesota could get one next year.
