reply to Ruffda:
Call it what you will, I would just note that a not-incredibly touted freshman came in and took the job from players who were known quantities to the coaching staff. If Tan was the greatest defensive specialist in the world, I could see where coming off second best wouldn't necessarily amount to rejection. But Tan was merely good, very good for a freshman. The others weren't good enough to get the job. They also weren't good enough to get any meaningful time in games even when the opposition wasn't particularly good and the outcome of the match, in that third game, not in doubt. It was as if Hebert had no interest to see how these players would do in a real game situation.

You're both making the same point. My guess is Tan/Cowles are libero/#1 DS, subbing in for the middles and Kyla. My guess is that you'll see either Hagerty or Katie V. play OH and play all rotations, much like Cumpston did this year. Then I think we'll see Dieter step in to one of the starting OH hitter positions and be a primary passer, but not to the extent that KBOW was. That just begs the open question of whom is playing where. I think Kyla stays left, as does Katie V/Hagerty, and Dieter is RS. She seems to block well and has a great vertical. speculation is fun ...... how many days till the new season?

I, on the other hand, think Kyla will move to RS as she was hitting out of that position quite a bit during the 2006 tourney and seemed to be comfortable, its easier to sub her out of that position and let one of the OHs play all the way around, and she puts up one hell of a block on opposing OHs. Would love to see her as the primary blocker against Hodge or Faucett next year.

It's not the same point. I'm saying Tan played because she was that good and gogophers is implying she played by default, because the coaching staff had no confidence in the other 3.
I agree about Kyla on the right, but I don't know if the staff does.

Baylor Setter Taylor Barnes (Soph. IMO, One of the top setters in country) MB Ann Breyfogle (Soph. Hammer of a middle, with a playa's insticts) Ashley Byrd (Fresh. an Albertrose blocker) Ashlie Cooper (Soph. 6-5) OH Katie Sanders (Soph, terminator who frequents the angle 5 foot area) Kelsey Smith (Soph, Lightning) Laureen Keeton Ashlie Christenson OPP Haley Thomas (JR. 1st team AA in JC and top point maker in JC tourney) Libero Sarah Grace (IMO, the best libero in the nation. Also has hops and can hammer on the OH) Kristen Schramek (#6 in the Big XII in digs last year) Starting 4 freshmen in 2006, this team showed amazing talent. In 2007 the Big XII will have their hands full with this group.

I agree about Kyla on the right, but I don't know if the staff does. Got it. Then I agree with you. I like Kyla on the right too, except we need someone who can quickly get to the second ball when Rachel takes the first. I don't think she can handle that. The other option would be to have the libero/DS take it. It would be interesting to see what Kyla's hitting percentage on the right vs the left side was this year. My only concern w/ her hitting on the right is that she has few options. Back 3 every time. Dieter/Katie V/Hagerty/Schmidt could run a few more options, like the cross that KBow ran and even back 1s, 2s and some slides. we'll see.

Kyla did run the cross play during the tourney and was successful. Also when Cassie played OPP the middles set the second ball when the setter dug the first. Don't know how Jones' hands would be but I'm pretty sure that Gibb is capable of setting a ball.
