Penn State "Holloway" is on her way to UCLA. Estrella you are correct, that drive to Happy Valley from almost anywhere stinks. From Dayton I am guessing it would have to be about 6 hours plus. Not sure what it is from Dayton to Tennessee but my thought is about 5 hours. Noble has to sit out a year because Tennesee's athletic department does not allow full releases to transfer. Players will have to go through a full appeal process to be able to compete the following year. Football and Basketball are this way so maybe the other sports will follow with the new academic performance numbers that are needed. The "one time exception" isn't applicable to football and basketball. In general, there's little to be gained by an athletic dept or coach refusing the release/exception outside of "sending a message" that they don't want transfers. There's pretty much no practical advantage to an athletic dept holding up the playing time of a transfer at a new program.

Players will have to go through a full appeal process to be able to compete the following year. That's not entirely accurate, Tennessee does not have a policy to not grant releases. The policy there is that it is up to the head coach whether or not to grant a release. Pat Summitt, the basketball coach, has released three players in the last few years (although NCAA rules require athletes to sit out a year in basketball, release or not. Players that don't get a release must sit for a year and cannot receive financial aid from the new school for a year). In this case, in a fashion typical of his attitude in general, Patrick declined to grant a release. I guess I see the position that he has taken, but why should he punish a player because she isn't happy in his program. That's a selfish move on his part. Selfish, but not suprising from a guy like that.

They have a slew of hitters coming in, but she won't be the go to with Queeny and Britneriker in the middle. Bartek will just be another option. And a good option for the SEC.

How about the selfishnesses of the player creating a hole in a position that the program maybe was not recruiting for due her ability. It goes both ways, but she is the one that accepted the offer and then choose to walk away. Don't know the reasons why she is leaving, but this unhappiness or mean coach thing is getting old very fast. I guess we have many unhappy kids and lots of mean coaches if we were to judge on the amount of transfers. ESTRELLA
