It is just interesting how Hawaii is always talked about on this forum like they are one of the top teams. They are beaten by Arizona who lost all season to UCLA, Arizona State, Washington, USC, Cal, Stanford & Oregon In other words, almost every team in the league You've been here for at least 100+ posts now, and you haven't noticed the number of Hawaii fans around here? Lots of fans = Lots of posts...

It is ludicrous to compare spring matches to matches played during the regular season. The team Hawai'i put on the court against the Wildcats is not the same team they will put on the court come the regular season. Hawai'i beat both Oregon and USC in the tourney last year anyway. Hawai'i has not been ranked outside of the top 25 since 1992, and have made 8 consecutive regionals. They are one of the top teams. If we were tooting the horn of some crappy team like Arizona State, then I could see questions being asked but Hawai'i is an entirely more successful entity.

Talk about an idot poster on Volleytalk. Arizona State beat Arizona twice in spring season and twice during the season and make it to regionals. My point is Arizona is not a very strong team and their past season speaks for itself. I was very surprised that they beat Hawaii. Arizona, Washington Sate, Oregon State are the three that did not make it to regionals. Any teams that play the top teams in the nation all season long and end up in the regionals are not crap.

We're going to tell you again slowly.......Hawai'i was playing without 4 of their best players, 6'0 Tara Hittle, 6'1 Jessica Keefe, 6'3 Nickie Thomas, 6'2 Julianna Sanders......2 MB's and 2 OH's....So you get the picture......

I went to the match and like i said, Arizona was playing more serious than Hawaii that night. Arizona's hitters looked alright, but almost everyone for Hawaii looked rusty (except Jamie Houston and maybe Caroline Blood). And when watching the match, it seemed they didn't want to rely on Sarah Mason (probably cuz she wasn't returning next year). This scrimmage was just to give people some playing time ... especially Mafua.
Yeah, this is like the beginning of spring practice, so really it's no big deal. But it would have been nice to see the Wahine play a lil harder being that a lot of fans paid to watch this scrimmage. But it was fun to watch anyway.
But yeah, it would be unfair to make assumptions from spring scrimmages (like this team aint that great cuz they lost to a team that lost to everyone that year) .... because spring ball and regular season matches are two completely different things.

Lets give reiker21 his moment to boast about his Arizona Wild Cats, I know that Hawaii's main line-up wasn't even on the floor. At this point with all the injuries Hawaii has suffered, any less than spectacular team like Arizona will boast about its victory over Hawaii or any other top team missing majority of its starting line-up in the spring, but come August, it's totally different story.

Good idea, sexy! I knew you were smart all along! haven't been posting because i am not much of a small talker. But after reading reiker's comments, I just like to say that he is just another (yawn) poster who likes to work up Hawaii's fans. reiker is not an idiot. How clearly he knows the following: 1) Hawaii played without four of its starters. It was widely publicized, 2) Shoji was not concerned about the outcome and nobody should have been; it was just an exhibition game, time for experimenting with the available players, especially with the new setter Mafua, 3) Shoji said this year's Wahine team is even better than last, taking into account the four starters that did not play. reiki21, being a nonidiot, is probably fully aware of the above and may even be intimidated by it, as well as by Houston's fete! Isn't it something that she now touches 10' 7," 3 inches higher than last year? Nobody in Arizona can jump that high, or came near the number of kills she got! 24? Noboby should take that game seriously or be impressed by it, not even Houston, herself, for she will do even better! reiki said: "It is just interesting how Hawaii is always talked about on this forum like they are one of the top teams. " This appears to belie his intelligence and prove me wrong. But I won't stand corrected because reiker21 does know 2 facts of life: 1) Hawaii is one of the top teams. 2) Most of the posters on this board are hawaii fans!

Well said, Pineapple.
One more point. My super secret UH student source said she heard that Da Wahine did not scrimmage or 'pick' positions, (since so many starters/players were out) until Wednesday...They were still doing the whole weight room-spring conditioning thing until then. If you think about it, there wasn't one 'true' starter on the floor that night, except Mason. (Wasn't Thomas starting with Sanders before she got hurt?) Lee wasn't the starting Libero, and Kaufman was redshirted.

Let me first say, I DO NOT like Arizona or am I a fan of the Wildcats. I was simply surprised that they would beat Hawaii any time. I wish Hawaii had spanked them. Arizona has been an over rated team both in preseason and season. I do NOT dislike Hawaii and think they have great supportive fans.

In that case can you please take Herman Frazier back!

The angst over some of the past several posts was clearly caused by BiK jumping through conclusions again.
