Schoen is listed as a soph this past season. I think Mehring quit if what the folks at UCLA tell me is right. Thats leaves: three freshman: McGraw, Nucci, and Mills one soph: Clements SIX juniors: Carstenson, Daly, Sather, Schoen, Spicer, Holloway(who is committed) One senior: Johnson Your right thats 11. One graduating senior and one open scholarship equals two 2008 players. Gil and Murrey. I guess it all adds up. What about Julianne Piggott? Will she be on scholarship?

I'm sure Piggott is a walk on. However wasn't Schone given a medical red shirt, that's why she is listed as a sophmore?

Every coach is always trying to "recruit over" the players they have. I don't care how good your players are, if there is a recruit out there who is better than all your players and you can convince them to come to your university, you do so. That's your job, to recruit the best players you possibly can. I have news for you.....you are WRONG!

Hey IB, even my "tainted sources" are more reliable than anything that you have!

Maybe now, my mommy and daddy said I had to give up all the other source I had... just too many mouths to feed. I miss those lil guys.

He just runs them off when he doesn't want them anymore. How many transfers has LBSt. had in the last few year? Almost as many as UCSB.

There is no way on earth that Sage would be going to UCLA without a scholarship. It is my understanding that her friend from NC, was in line for a scholarship if Gill declined. With Gill accepting the offer, that offer is no longer on the table.

Banachowski is only following the Al Scates plan of having 20-30 players.

Banachowski is only following the Al Scates plan of having 20-30 players. Sems to be what he is doing......no doubt about it!! His problem is that when half of their practices are just "roll out the balls" types of practices, they really don't get a whole lot better.....plus they rarely practice more than two hours a day.....can't get better, really better, if you don't practice and train to the max!! Period!! Of course, the kids that he recruits, with a few exceptions I'm sure(are you listening Slavegirl??) know exactly what they are getting into and really don't want to work that hard.......which is why, with the talent that they had last season, they were watching the finals instead of playing in them!

Once you have your team in the gym, the key to success is finding the proper balance, of on-the-court training, video analysis, weight-training and REST. I had my greatest success as a coach, when we started getting more rest - rest for the coaching staff and for the team - during the second half of the season. In the NCAA, you're dealing with student-athletes, who have obligations beyond the volleyball court. Practicing three hours or more a day, from early August to the end of the season will fatigue most players. They will not be playing their best come tournament time. I read an article about NCAA mens BB coaches earlier this week. Ben Howland was one of many extolling the virtues of more rest late in the season.

Schoen did not get a medical redshirt. Her injury occured too late in the season. According to a poster on the UCLA board (uclascout.com), Becky Mehring and Rachell Johnson were the only redshirt scholies last season. Jessica Fine was also redshirted but not on scholarship. Meghan Schoen will be a senior during the 2007 season and will finish her collegiate career along with Mehring and Johnson. The confusion arose when the UCLA sports website (uclabruins.com) mistakenly listed Schoen as a sophomore instead of a junior in 2006. Jordan Smith listed as a freshman instead of a sophomore was another error. There will be 3 scholies for 2008 (two already set aside for Gil and Sage), and the third is available for Murrey if she wants it. (Didn't notice when I posted that BeiBei already mentioned this on previous page). Piggott will be a walk on as someone previously mentioned.

Because so many teams beat Nebraska last year. It was a fluke they beat UCLA and then beat Stanford to win the championship.

That is the most insulting thing that I have ever heard. The girls from ucla worked their hearts out last year. Their stats were 33-4. Getting to the final four is an incredible feat. More than most teams. Beachman... your attitude is showing. Sour grapes... Is there anything ever positive that you have to say? It would be a nice surprise....

You haven't been paying attention to Long Beach in the past few years, have you? It has him down and bitter. Ignore his rants about UCLA.
