How can Gil and Sage be committed for the 2008 class when there is only one senior on the 2007 squad?

There will be 3 scholarship seniors on the 2007 team: Rachell Johnson, Meghan Schoen and Becky Mehring. In addition, unless they get a transfer (possible Holloway??) or a late signing, they will only have 11 players on scholarship.

Schoen is listed as a soph this past season. I think Mehring quit if what the folks at UCLA tell me is right. Thats leaves:
three freshman: McGraw, Nucci, and Mills one soph: Clements SIX juniors: Carstenson, Daly, Sather, Schoen, Spicer, Holloway(who is committed) One senior: Johnson
Your right thats 11.
One graduating senior and one open scholarship equals two 2008 players. Gil and Murrey. I guess it all adds up.

Don't forget the "mass exodus" that we're supposed to be having in Westwood any day now...

I think the truth has come out about the mass exodus as you referred. Previous poster said Mehring was leaving, presumably to focus on being a mom, the other three were all walk-on's unhappy about lack of play time.
What is interesting is that if Prep's analysis is correct then UCLA is done recruiting for the Class of 2008. However I think that they have made at least two more offers including the Murray kid from Nor Cal. Someone will be shown the door if they intend on signing these kids.

Andy has the luxury of always "showing the kid the door" if they don't go along with the program......he is loaded with talent, that usually underachieves.....I wouldn't be surprised if they don't lose another player or two in the next 12 to 18 months. Becky has, in all probability, moved beyond volleyball in her life, which was expedited by the fact that Andy did a great job of recruiting over her.......

I would disagree with the assessment Andy is "loaded with talent" It has been almost ten years since you could say that about UCLA. Last years team had some great talent, but not loaded with talent.

Kind of splitting hairs here, aren't we? What exactly is the difference between "loaded with talent" and "great talent?"

Something that Brian Gimmarillo is "not guilty" of, eh, Beachman?

Every coach is always trying to "recruit over" the players they have. I don't care how good your players are, if there is a recruit out there who is better than all your players and you can convince them to come to your university, you do so. That's your job, to recruit the best players you possibly can.

So will Sage not be on scholarship 2008? If she is, then no schollie for Murrey...

My club folks in Ohio say that Sage will be on scholarship for sure. The only way that Murrey gets a scholarship is if one is "created" by getting rid of someone on scholarship. Sage is really good friends with a player in North Carolina, i can't remember her name, but she says that UCLA has also offered this NC players too. So that's two outstanding offers with no scholarships. Interesting math there in Westwood!

Schoen is listed as a soph this past season. I think Mehring quit if what the folks at UCLA tell me is right. Thats leaves: Schoen is definitely a junior this past season though the UCLA website roster listed her as a soph (must be an overlooked mistake), however, if you clicked their weekly releases and check her bios, she is listed as a junior. what gobruins posted is accurate. They have 3 scholarships to offer for 2008 (Gil, Sage and ?)
