The Wahine will again be loaded at the net as in the years past. But whats been bugging me is their ability to pass and play "in-yo-face" defense Mafua is no Kamanao and the Wahine will have to give clean passes to her or else she will be sent scrambling, keeping the offense one sided and predictable. The Wahine need at least two reliable players in the backcourt to play inspiring defense, keep the ball off the ground, and give the Wahine a chance to hang with the big guns (Nebraska, Texas, Penn St., etc.) I think 2007 will be a building year for the Wahine, simply because there are new faces and the key freshmen will have to adjust to college ball. The WAC competition shouldn't be that much of a threat and I expect another WAC championship from the Wahine. I would like for them to go deep into the NCAA tourney, but I'm not setting any expectations on that I believe that the 2008 season looks very promising. Mafua, Brandt, Ferrell, and Simmons will have a year of playing time, Lee and Kaufman will be juniors, and Houston should be well on her way to first team AA honors come her senior year. Time will only tell.

That is the exciting part about the Wahine's in years to come. We have players to back us up now......Herring, Ferrell, Simmons, Brandt, Mafua, Ka'ahiue, and hoping for Fonoimoana and 6'5 Tabi Love...................Hawai'i has a bright future ahead of them..........

Time will only tell. You're absolutely right about the passing. Mafua is only a Freshman, and i'm wondering if she has charisma, and volleyball intellect to mold horrible passes into hittable balls as KK did. My premature guess is that she will not. Neither will I assume that Brandt can either. Having said that I know from the conclusion of last year, many Hawaii VT'ers have been commenting on how passing will be much better this year. Now that Otineru is possible not going to be playinng at UH until at least 2008. How does the passing look? For me, I figure Hawaii's only "good" passers are Hittle; Lee (i'm biased); Kaaihue for now. I wouldn't be suprised to see Houston, Duggins, Mafua, and Brandt to be decent enough come September. We'll see though...

Ferrell and Simmons will first have a chance to learn and get the feel of the Wahine system this upcoming season as freshmen. These kids are very physical and very athletic and will be fun to watch. I have seen Simmons play, very quick and explosive, but I'm anxious to see Ferrell. Heard nothing but positive things about this kid.

Ferrell's hitting abilities is what impresses me the most, people this girl hits the CRAP! out of the ball.....harder than any high school player I have seen...JTawa even said it himself that she hits harder than #1 recruit Alix Klineman...............That's enough said about her.....She'll learn more about the college level as soon as she arrives in Manoa........

It's not how hard you hit, it's where you place the ball.

Give it time and hard word, she'll come along on her ball placement and handling skills......Houston for example....
