^ Sydney Anderson was supposed to be the heir apparent to CT, but the promise of immediate playing time at Utah took her i bet... I remember an article saying that the decision was so close that it could've gone either way. So now it's Hagglund, or maybe even Christian is she beats her out...
there's no more scholarships left at UW for this next season, unless Christian isn't getting one, which I highly doubt... and the season after that I believe two scholarships are remaining of the four that are going to be freed up(Mo, Dees, Aratani, Mussie) with two taken from two local MBs and one of the available scholarships is probably being held out for Tarah Murrey if she decides to come to washington...

Speaking of late, both Anderson and Salvo from Utah have been granted releases. I wonder where they will end up. it's true Salvo and Anderson are transferring from Utah. They will NOT be granted releases to play. they will have to redshirt the next season. we'll see if they become less noticed on the bench

Has either indicated why they are leaving? This seems rather spontaneous.

Has either indicated why they are leaving? This seems rather spontaneous. the reason that they gave the team was that they don't feel that they can acheive their goals of being on the olympic team at the University of Utah. so they are going to another school to sit the bench as redshirts

Making the olympic team is such a longshot for any player, do they really think they have a better chance at making the olympic team by playing somewhere else. If they want to make the olympic team as you say then they would probably want to transfer to a top 10 type of team, someplace that has produced previous olympic level players, the only problem with that is I don't know if any of these schools even have scholarships available. Someone already said Washington doesn't have any left for next year. They may have to pay their own way for at least one season. In this case I just from the info I've read I don't blame the coach for not giving them releases. Utah could have been a top 10 team with them, without them, they may not even be in the top 25. I'm reminded of the saying that the grass isn't always greener....

Seems ironic that Krug transfers to get more playing time after getting beaten out by Anderson. But had she stayed at Utah, all would have worked out. Instead she goes to lowly Pacific. She must be kicking herself.

She never would have known about this at the time she made her decision. Pretty easy choice to pick full time over little playing time. Word is that she really likes Charlie Wade as a coach and likes Pacific as a school. Some have said that all Pacific has been lacking is a tall setter. Like Utah, Pacific was primarily a team with no seniors last year.
But it is still tough to lose both of your setters off the roster during the off season. Ironically, that is what happened to Pacific in the off season last year. Toone, the other seniors next year and the 6-6 Right side they have coming in can't be too happy. What a front line they are going to have!
That's a tough blow for any team to have 2 starters check out, especially after taking them to Europe. Maybe somebody planted some seeds while these players were going through the process of trying out and making the A2 team.

Well, I hope it works out at Pacific. I'm pulling for Wade to bring that program back to national prominence.

This development takes some more shine off the field for the AVCA Showcase tournament at Omaha in late August. Both first round matches now look like yawners, but the match-ups for the second night should be more competitive (although at much different levels).
You have to wonder if Utah would have been invited to participate if these transfer decisions had been made 3-4 months ago.

This is really odd. If the reason for leaving is to help make the National Team, the young women are receiving some bad advice. The National Team needs great athletes, great players. There is nothing that will happen in the next year or two at Washington or UCLA that is going to make a significant difference over the intense schedule that Utah will face next fall. There is more to this story than meets the eye.

Hell everyone,
A newbie here -- I have been a long-time reader and have enjoyed reading many of the discussions here. As you can tell from my handle, I'm a Utah fan -- a big one at that. I played club ball at Utah and am still playing USAV; I am also a girls club coach in Texas.
The loss of Salvo and Anderson are shocking and disappointing. I was so looking forward to our next season as the Utes has the potential of going far. It's a sad development. Nonetheless, the show has to go on. I'm hopeful Coach Launiere and the team can recover from this. Beth has done a great job at Utah by developing raw talent.

I am hearing more and more that coaches want raw talent to develop. Athleticism is much preferred over a polished product from feeder clubs. Which coaches seem to do the most with developing players ? Pete Waite is one name that comes to mind.

Who on earth is giving these kids advice? Is is their former club coaches, other college coaches, a palm reader?
How is playing at Utah, where THREE players were named to the A2 team announced last month, going to hurt their chances of being on the Olympic squad? I don't believe that is the reason for transfering at all - I suspect that someone came up with that crap to place them where ever they are going. Someone is orchestrating all of this behind the scenes, as is often the case with transfers. I'll be curious to see where they end up.
This really sucks for Utah. Beth has done a great job of elevating that program and MWC and this situation just pisses me off. I wonder if the kids have any idea how much they have insulted the Utes program by saying that playing their hurts their future??? And I can't imagine how ticked off the team is - they just finished a European tour, which is usually a great bonding experience - and two critical players decide to transfer.
I think VB needs a tougher transfer rule.

So much for being a team player yikes! This sounds like the most selfish reasons for transfering ever. If true your basically telling either your teammates they are holding you back or your coach that they aren't good enough to coach you. Either way you might be thinking too highly of yourself. I've seen national team players in crappy coed and rec leagues. Maybe they need to be humbled a bit.

Maybe they need to be humbled a bit. I agree, but I have to wonder exactly WHO is feeding them this BS? I just can't believe they came up with such BS on their own. Someone is blowing their egos and telling them this crap to get them to transfer - I truly believe it's just a way to get them to another school and the kids are being used. It's evil, it's destructive to the game and to college athletics, and I hope someone figures it out !
