Not sure I agree with this statement. These girls are not backups looking to get on the court. They picked Utah and now feel they are too good for the program? If they are being manipulated then I feel sorry fro them. I also feel that any coaches that encourage transfers to come to them need to be severly punished. You have a point. But I'm just saying players ultimately transfer to do what is in their best interest. I guess this just stings for an up-and-coming program to lose two of their strongest players. But it happens. UCSB lost Sandell. Long Beach State lost Ali Daley. If these girls truly think they're not going to be happy w/ their current program then they might as well transfer. Loyalty is a trait that is becoming very difficult to find in this society. Our pro athletes are in it for the money and so are the owners that they work for....college is becoming the same way and this current generation of young people wants instant gratification and finding young people who have loyalty and are able to develop lasting relationships is getting harder and harder to see.....jsut my feelings based on my experiences for a long time! Oh, and before I forget, many of these young people reflect the attitudes of their parents, unfortunately! It's not just the kids!

Kim Norman, their old club coach, also is the head coach at Westminster College, but I couldn't see Anderson and Salvo playing there at all.

Loyalty only works if it's a two-way street. There are a lot of coaches in this generation who are of the same ilk as the players and parents you are talking about. If I wanted to go public on this board (I won't), I can give you quite a few cases where the players were 'loyal' to their college teams, and had horrible collegiate athletic experiences. Sad. You have a point. But I'm just saying players ultimately transfer to do what is in their best interest. I guess this just stings for an up-and-coming program to lose two of their strongest players. Romeo- Are you speaking in generalities or about this case? I know many terrible coaches who manipulate and push buttons too. I don't think this is the case with the coaching staff at Utah. Anyway just baffled by this excuse to transfer and it seems very unfortunate for the entire program (coaches, players, and recruits).

we can keep talking about the interesting decision that those two made. we all know it's fun. but the real issue is the Utah team. They lost good volleyball players but not good teammates. Utah will be fine. They lost two players that didn't not believe in the team and Utah will be better off for it. They still have great players in Emillie Toone, Kathryn Haynie, and Connie Dangerfield. Combined with the great coaching staff i would bet money on Utah having a great team next year.

Oh please let me clear that I am speaking in generalities. I don't know squat about this particular issue. Romeo- Are you speaking in generalities or about this case? saw this on posted on prepvolleyball was an interesting point of view dotyoureye.blogspot.com/2007/04/usa-staff-apparently-screwing-with.html"We just got back from the A2 tryouts and the staff said the conference was just not that tough," Salvo's mother Lori said. "They're not playing against top players in top conferences." That's Lori Salvo, mother of Utah deserter Airial Salvo after news broke that Airial and teammate Sydney Anderson are bailing on the Utes for loftier heights, apparently after receiving advice from "the staff" at the A2 tryouts. That sound you hear is the USA Volleyball infrastructure crumbling to the ground, combined with Tom Pingel developing an instantaneous ulcer. Don't you think head coach Beth Launiere would love a little conversation with the rocket scientist at USA Volleyball that gave her two budding young stars such stellar advice? "Hey, thanks for that. Really. You're a peach. Did you want to run over my dog, too?" Can we expect more super terrific interventions in the future from USA staff members? If so, why would any college coach at a school other than Stanford, Penn State, Washington, etc., advise their players to tryout for any USA team? Why would you? Why send your talented kids to USA Volleyball when there's a danger of someone telling them they need to leave their current school because of a lack of competition? And correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Utah a Top 10 team last year? With everyone returning? And aren't they playing in the AVCA Showcase next year? Well according to Mrs. Salvo, Airial and Anderson "want to play for a national championship and become Olympians." And that's impossible as a Utah Ute? Sure, the odds of achieving the former are tougher at Utah than at Nebraska, Stanford, Penn State, and Washington, but what do you want, the whole thing handed to you on a silver platter? As for wanting to be an Olympian, this really has even less to do with where you go to school. Stacy Sykora, Lindsey Berg, Charlene Johnson, Demetria Sance, Tammy Liley, Liane Sato, Janet Cobbs, Mickisha Hurley, and Yoko Zetterlund did not play for Top 5 programs. You know what they did do? Play in the Olympics.

^ *INTERESTING* So it was someone planting something in these kids' heads afterall like someone posted earlier in this thread... But it came from USA Volleyball, that's a shocker. The author of the above article, if true, points out a valid question: what insane coach would send their athletes to train with the US team if they are going to lose their players in the process?

any truth to the rumor that one of them is seriously considering Hawaii? As a Hawaii fan, I sure hope not! They may be great players, but are they really the type of people you want on your team. They need a lesson in humility. Besides after reading the article where the mother talks about the weak conference, Hawaii has the same problem, so they won't go there.

The conference may be weak but Dave has been known for making players into Olympians. He has a great track record for getting his players known. And believe it or not, his recommendation is gold. I know this for a fact. He can watch a player play and know if there is magic there or not. Even before others see the potential.

Oh yeah Hawaii doesn't have any scholarships left for next season anyway. My uneducated guess is USC or UCLA.
