In the latest pre-match notes from Huskers.com, it mentions that the Nebraska/Hawaii match on October 21st at the Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln is approaching 13,000 tickets sold. At that rate it will almost certainly be a sellout. Capacity (for basketball) is listed at 13,595. www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=1208230That's exciting to me because the last couple times NU has played in the Bob, the crowds have been underwhelming. But of course, they weren't playing a team like Hawaii. I hope that a good number of Islanders will make the trek to Lincoln, (weather shouldn't be too cold yet). Looking forward to it already.

I logged into the huskers.com site and they said that standing room only will be available the date of the game... or something like that. I wonder if they will lay down the sport court, or if they will play on the normal Devaney floor?

I have a feeling that the following will happen:
Nebraska will manhandle and crush Hawaii during the first two games. Hawaii is so deflated that they lose all confidence. Cook then replaces all of his starters with scrubs to make a game out of this onslaught. Doesn't work. Nebraska second- and third-stringers kill Hawaii 30-12 in the third and final game.
I'm not looking forward to this match. Oy vei...

If you think Nebraska will unload the bench up 2-0 on Hawaii, you underestimate the paranoia of coaches, and I also have some real estate I would like to talk to you about.

So true about the paranoia. LOL! Anyway, I have to rewatch the 2002 NCAA regional final -- Hawaii vs. Nebraska to feel happy again.

I hope that a good number of Islanders will make the trek to Lincoln, (weather shouldn't be too cold yet). Looking forward to it already. When Coach Dunning asked early in his Stanford tenure how he could fill Maples, I quipped "Schedule Hawai'i". I was kidding on the square... Hawai'i was the last team I remember whose fans outnumbered Stanford fans at Maples for an in-semester regular-season match.

Well next year you guys lose Houghtelling and Pavan so its a WHOLE other ball game!!! ;D But yeah Hawaii was crash and burn in that game unfortuantely.

Hawaii must drastically improve in a short time to be competitive against Nebraska. I hope Shoji will stick to a starting lineup soon and give this group enough game practice to play cohesively. I'm still wishing Ferrell will win the L2 position because without another terminator aside from Houston, Hawaii's chances of winning is slim. But you just never know. Hawaii might surprise everyone.

let's hope the Wahine will keep it respectable- they should be playing at a pretty high level by then- but so will everyone else.
Nebraska has an excellent team. Houghtailing & Pavan play at a whole different level.

Food for thought:
1) Why is the game, which is more than a month away from now, sold out? Why will there be 16,000 people, the biggest ever in the history of Div I volleyball, at the match? Why is there enormous interest in this match? Didn't Nebraska beat UCLA in 4, a team that simply slambanged the Wahine?
3) Why? The Wahine will not be dancing hula, they will not be doing the tahitian. They will not be giving a slide show of Hawaii's volcanoes and beautiful beaches and hotels, or of the wonderful foods and beautiful people and near perfect weather..
4) Yet still there will be 13,000 at the game! Why? This not Warrior football and Colt Brennan will not be there. Don Ho is dead, so he too will not be there.
5) If Wahine loses, so what? It will be no big thing to Hawaii fans. Didn't they already lose two other matches to much lower ranked teams to boot?
6) But what if Hawaii wins? To me this is why there will be 16,000 people at the match. They see it as a great match. Otherwise why would they show up?

Just to clarify, there won't be 16,000 people there. Capacity at the venue they will be playing at will be 13,500...

Why is the match sold out already? Easy, Nebraska volleyball fans want to see a big-time program play the Huskers, regardless of how good that team actually is right now.
Also, as previously mentioned before, tickets are impossible to come by, so I'm sure many large groups (local volleyball teams?) snatched up tickets for the Sunday afternoon game.
