floor defense was awesome- Hawaii kept balls off of the floor- key to them winning

solid win for the Bows. Games 3 and 4 were tight, it was crucial for HI to close those out and not let SCU back in it. Houston had a huge night 26K, .388, 10 digs, 3 blks.
nice showing for SCU, some real scrappy floor defense on their part.
the all tourney team was:
Houston MVP Otineru Ka'aihue Stockman (WSU) Broussard (WSU) Hills (EW) Mattich (SCU)
i would have had Lungren from WSU on there.

Solid win overall. SCU played their best match of the tournament, very scrappy. Hawaii seems to be settling into a nice line-up. Kaufman really gives them another offensive option in the middle, connection with Sanders still needs to improve. I agree with what Chris McLachlin said, how Houston goes, the team goes, she was a force out their. Hit smart, hit hard, blocked well (that solo on Lowe was awesome). Aneli looked tired tonight, didn't hit that well, but played good defense (16 digs) and kept swinging. Ka'aihue continues to impress, Brandt is improving. Floor defense was great, 85 digs, passing was steady as well. Hopefully they continue to get better.
Boise St. and Idaho coming in next week. Idaho should be a nice test; their outside Haley Larson is averaging 5.52 kpg and they took UH to four games twice last season.

Hawaii basically played 7- houston, hittle, cubi-otineru, sanders, kaufman, brandt, kaaihue- lee for houston on some rotations
Is SC missing some key player? they don't look like a #19 team
kaufman has good jumping ability, good hang time for blocking and on the step out- but they're going to have a tough time with big teams with cubi-otineru, kaufman & brandt on the front row- they look a little undersized

I missed the match in every possible way. Summary anyone? Is the lineup set yet? Hawaii played great games 2-4. Defensively, Hawaii needs to work on picking up tips and off shots from opposing teams. I like how Dave is now subing Houston for Lee in the back row. Lee is doing a great job of serving. Line-up looks good with Kaufman and Sanders in middle, Houston-Otineru at OH, and Hittle at Opp, and Brandt at setter and Ka'aihue at Libero. Houston was the difference in this match - 26 kills.

Dowd and Scaffone made some noice tonight ... but not AA quality. Kaufman and Brandt held their own blocking tonight, but you're right they will not form an imposing wall. on the plus side they also got a lot of soft blocks tonight, and if that is ultimately the kind of block they can put up, then by all means ... HI's back court is good enough this year to pass those well enough in transition.

Agree about the small block. They can probably get away with that one rotation against most WAC teams, but it could become problematic against bigger hitters. Thankfully there are some bigger players that can come in for blocking purposes (Gregory, Simmons, Mafua, etc.)

I saw the statistics........and Hittle played really great, how did she looked on the court tonight? Hittle looked good- effective all around play kept errors to a minimum tonight she does have a decent swing but the defense keeps picking her up- not enough velocity? She does have the most service errors this but I wish she would serve tougher- didn't she have a pretty wicked jump serve as a frosh?
