I agree with you that Metcalf needs to be on the floor playing Opp. Tom and Haneef on the left, with Glass as the back-up. From the looks of it, Lang Ping is keeping Haneef-Park at Opposite (atleast for NORCECA). As for Metcalf, she and her spanish club had a very good result last season. Does anyone know how long she has been back with the team? For now, Cassie Busse is back up Opposite. Ideally, we would not have Haneef in there to pass so she and Metcalf should contend for OPP. If Glass or Barboza is able to pass (in particular) and hit at a high level, the OH2 should be hers. It seems weird to bench one of our best players (Haneef or Metcalf), but it doesn't make sense to have 2 strong serve receivers in Tom and Sykora and one really weak one in Haneef. Take a guess where all the serves will be going. I also don't like the idea of Tom and Sykora doing a two man serve receive for most the entire time. Tom can't handle that load.

Given that there were no real options, Tom did handle most of the serve receive, at least if she could get to the ball. Most of the international players recognized that, so why serve to her when you know she had better chances of passing than the others? I know this just goes round and round. At the end of the day, she's still the best option out there.

At the end of the day, she's still the best option out there. That's why the 2nd OH should be a strong serve receiver. If we use Haneef, every serve will be directed at her. Or Tom will have to pass more than she should and will either start shanking or will be completely taken out of the offense. In 2004, Phipps should have been a solid option to both pass and hit, but because she was tanking big time, we brought in Nnamani. That led to Tom and Sykora scrambling like crazy. I think I'd really like to see Barboza go for the OH2 spot. Even tho she can't terminate that effectively, she can be like the 5th attacking option. Our strongest positions seem to be at MB and setter and maybe OPP, so we might as well have the tools to get the ball to those players.

Hi brybry2!
Couldn't agree with you more. The US just has to find that 2nd OH that can pass. Too bad Richards has wonky knees. I wonder if she'll ever want to play for the US. BTW, what's up with Richards --- is surgery in the picture for her?
