Xavier would be a good win. I don't see it happening though. Xavier has won 7 straight ( I know UD has won 21). They have already beaten Cal Poly this year. A good 18-6 Xavier team can take care of business at home on Friday and shut up a lot of this silly talk.

What do you guys think about the Flyers? Is there 21-0 record just smoke and mirrors? They have defeated some good teams such as Purdue, Illinois, Utah to name a few. I think they are a good team but to be ranked #12 in the country with a suspect conference really begs the question. Still we have to tip our hats to Coach Hortsman. He is a winner where ever he goes. Don't see him much longer at UD unless they give him Fort Knox. Thoughts? ESTRELLA I think the number 12 ranking is too high, for starters Dayton has never beat ANY team ranked higher than 17. (Purdue this year, and look where Purdue is now) But they deserved to be ranked, i think closer to around 20. Obviously most teams don't win every game on the schedule, with Dayton and Nebraska being the lone exceptions right now. Dayton has moved up since other teams have lost to teams below and Dayton has not. It doesn't sound to hard to beat the teams you are supposed to, but clearly it is tougher than we think to be mentally at the top of your game every day. So their ranking is partly smoke and mirrors. You just have to hand it to anyone who had something to do with Dayton's scheduling this year. Maybe they got a little luck, but I would like to think they at least knew Utah was heading for a down year and they schedule Utah on a neutral court early in the season to hopefully grab some respect before the schedule got easier. And about the Dayton vs. Xavier game this Friday. I'm not sure if you can say Xavier will "take care of business". When I hear take care of business I think that is normally said about a better team playing a team they should beat. I have given Xavier credit, because they are a very solid team, and capable of playing with some of the best teams around, but you can't tell me they are clearly better than the Flyers. Xavier is a very streaky team this year with a victory over Cal Poly and a near victory over Michigan, but losses to Eastern Michigan, Marshall, and Wright State. They know what is at stake in this game and their coach will have them ready to play, but the same can be said for Dayton. They both have the same record in Conference and regional and maybe national respect is on line for both teams. This game will be far from "taking care of business" for either team and a very hard fought match.

That was a good win for Dayton, both teams are a lot different now, better. I go in to the match against Xavier thinking Xavier should win this game. I don't pay attention to the numbers in front of the name until after the match is over. Especially when that number is too low.

so, quick poll, who thinks dayton is overrated and conversely who thinks they're underrated? personally, i think we're witnessing a memphis effect (as in the men's basketball team). talented team that plays tough out of conference matches since their conference is weak. how far will dayton go in the ncaa's? all depends on the luck of the draw and match-ups but i wouldn't be shocked to see them in the sweet sixteen

Just curious Since you want some stats, i took a quick look at who is leading the nation in a few statistical categories on NCAA's volleyball page. Dayton is 45th in the nation in Aces per game and 65th in Hitting Percentage. They don't rank in the top 75 in Assists per game, Kills per game, or blocks per game. Jamie Lee Richards is tied for 41st in the nation for Aces per game. Bethany Akerheilm is 65th in the nation in hitting percentage.

Although the NCAA volleyball page does say Dayton is tied for first in the nation in winning percentage.

have any of you seen Dayton? They are very tall, there setter is good, they have 2 reall good middles, a solid right side, and two pretty good outsides. If they pass well they can be in the match with anyone, but if not....

If they pass well they can be in the match with anyone, but if not.... Of course I've seen Dayton play this year. I have seen them play 10 matches this year. They can definitely be in the match with anyone. I'm doing my best to give both sides of the argument. And you forgot to say that Dayton has three seniors on the team who are all vocal/positive leaders on and off the court. Dayton has some talent but more importantly they play hard, practice hard, and don't give up. That is why they are 21-0 instead of 17-4. The Xavier game will be good and I will be at that one too. That will make 11 games this year.

I just want to add to his statistical rankings and fill in that Dayton is ranked in the top 100 however in Assists per game(91), Kills per game(76), and Blocks per game(88). This data comes from the NCAA site as well.
