Sorry, I wasn't being critical of being a homer. I definitely can claim that mantra for all things Badger.
My main point was that I don't think Harmotto has enough kills to be considered a frontrunner for POY. She's an outstanding athlete, but it's the nature of the beast at PSU that they have enough weapons to go around (and sometimes not good enough passing) to get her involved as much as she probably should be.
The last time a big ten middle won POY was Sherisa Livingston, and she averaged over 5 kills per game her junior season when she won. Heck, Nana Meriwether had over 5 kpg, led the conference in hitting % and blocks last year in the pac-10 and didn't get POY.
It's tough to make a case for a middle to get POY when they only play half the match. Their stats have to be pretty eye-popping. 2.85kpg isn't enough, in my opinion.

You make a good point, its refreshing to see someone make a statement, and than make the case for that statement. You can't control your attempts offensively, thats for sure. I think she may make up for the points you make, by how she plays, what she means to her team. Intangibles rarely seem to get into the equation, but they should.

Intangibles rarely seem to get into the equation, but they should. Now there something that needs to be repeated over and over again because so many of the VolleyTalk elitists read the Box Score and then feel entitled to chime in on every player from every team and pass judgment on them, their skills and value as a player. The Box Score is no substitute for actually viewing the match. The player that serves result in free balls and overpasses but not aces. The player that chases down the ball after a bad first contact. The player that the team looks to as the outlet on every broken play that will keep the ball in play. Etc, etc. There are so many very important things a player can bring to a team that will only be reflected in one place...Wins & Losses.

I also predicted that Harmotto would win POY before the season, as long as she got enough sets. That, and the fact that she has Fawcett and Hodge on her team to maybe take away votes, is all that is holding her back, in my opinion. If Hodge plays like she did on sunday, she could move ahead, though. Also, if Wisconsin can somehow win out, Dolgner and Simpson would enter the discussion as well. Dolgner has been as good as Hodge or Fawcett statistically, and Simpson has done a really good job of running the Badger offense and improved her defense.

The Badger's Reineke falls into the same category here, though I'm not stumping for her for any POY consideration.. Because of the balanced offense on the Badgers, she'll never approach eyepopping offensive totals, though her lifetime hitting percenatge is very strong. If they need her to score, she can. But as Keystone pointed out with Harmatto, how she plays and her importance to the team's success might make up for her general lack of offensive attempts. I think she and Dolgner are the two players most critical to the Badger's post season success. There are no adequate replacements for either.

I watched the PSU/UW match and really like Wisconsin's chances of advancing to the FF. As a team they don't have any weakness. I don't think that match was that tight because it was in Madison, I look for a similar battle in Rec Hall.

I think every team has a weakness. It may not be exploited every time but its there. It can be something as simple as being over confident
