Va Tech will get a 1 seed. Whether its top 5 who knows? They won the EIVA championship and EIVA is the largest east coast conference. From what I hear they are guaranteed a 1 seed because of that.

The men's ranking committee hasn't completed final rankings. Just the DI and DI-AA split after a long conference call of commissioners nation- wide. Be patient! Also, thank your commish for all the extra hours they put in. We all have 'real' jobs and most all of us volunteer. Thank you commish!

I would say there are no guarantees, but chances are good. 48 teams in DI and DIAA, so top 12 seeds would get a 1 seed for pool. I may be wrong, but there are more than 12 conferences.

How can you justify giving Fresno the #1? It has to be Illinois. They won Vegas and MIVA as of late. After that its a crap shoot... from Fresno team website: www.csufresno.edu/StudentOrgs/redwavevball/Tournament wins at Long Beach Open, Far Westerns, NCCVL championship tournament, went undefeated in NCCVL regular season and an 37-3 overall record while going 19-2 vs top 25 ranked teams. from Illinois team website: www.illinoismensvolleyball.com/blueTeam.phppreseason record of 28-2, regular season record last updated from the Big10 Round Robin from Feb 7-8 with a 4-0 record. from other sources, as mentioned above, Illinois won Las Vegas and won MIVA championships. No head to head matches between the two teams. I would guess both teams have had similar records against ranked teams, but I don't have info for all of Illinois matches. With over half of Fresno's matches against ranked teams, IMO, I'd give the edge to Fresno with the info on hand. True info has Illinois play very well recently, but it's a close call.

Any word on when the various divsions will be playing? AM pool or PM pool? This will probably not be available until team check in tomorrow, unless a commish leaks it. I would guess as a rule of thumb DI men and DI women play AM with most lower divisions playing PM.

any way we can get the list of who is in D1 and who is in D1AA so we can at least kill some time by trying to rank the top 48 teams and decide our own seeding tonight? I mean, that could be a lot of fun...

Another possible factor could be Illinois' win over Fresno in a great semi-final at last year's Nationals. Illinois only lost one starter from that squad ...curious about Fresno's returning players.

Fresno has a large squad of 15 with 9 Freshman. Setter and one middle are freshman. They actually don't have a true setter... their coach had to train a starter and backup back in the fall... both freshman. They even run a modified 6-2 sometimes.
Most all of them are local boys and it's a testament to the quality of boy's volleyball coming out of the Fresno/Clovis/Sanger area.

I would like to hear TOP 10 PREDICTIONS for nationals from anyone willing to make them. Mine are as follows: 1) Illinois - Yes another Midwest winner 2) Lakeland - Simply because they have a track record of second place finishes. 3) Fresno - Not quite ready to take the title 4) Oshkosh - Team full of egos that can implode at any time 5) Arizona - Solid team but not enough to win it all 6) Ohio State - Team is like a roller coaster up and down 7) UC Berkley - Solid team but not enough to win it all 8) Utah Valley - A couple years away yet 9) Cal Poly - Solid players but inconsistent 10) Illinois State - This is my underdog pick because they are a scrappy team that finds ways to win.

1) Illinois 2) Fresno St. 3) Oshkosh 4) Missouri 5) Lakeland 6) Utah Valley 7) Cal Poly 8) Cal 9) Va Tech 10) Ohio State
Other teams worth mentioning in no particular order: West: UCLA, Arizona, San Diego St? Midwest: Marquette? East: Navy, Penn State, JMU, UCF Other: Texas A&M (I feel bad for them because it seems like they never have any competition until nationals)

Berkeley...with 3 e's pls.... has beaten Oshkosh and Utah Valleyand Cal Poly twice just recently...and UCLA lost to our JV team altho quite awhile ago....so I would put Cal up higher... If Cal packs the AA game I saw at practice last nite, it will be great. If..... Most all teams have an occasional tendency to fall asleep at the oddest times... so the teams who can produce consistently thru the 3 days....and not lose focus...end up playing late on Sat. Time to get it on....

no way Oshkosh will be in the top 5, they didn't even finish first in their pool at MIVA. Indiana beat them...
