A large # of schools likely sent a delegate to the regular NIRSA annual convention.... this subject came up. If these delegates were paying attention and have brought home the subject of NIRSA nationals as opposed to NCVF Nationals, they are likely already discussing it on their campuses. How many men's and women's teams are unaware remains to be seen. By Oct 1 when the latest tryouts have usually occurred, we'll see where the various teams are going, as registration materials/packets are scheduled to be available earlier than the usual Dec. 1 date.
Frankly the National tourney has obviously been growing fast for years. This early discussion on the various issues is all to the good.... it helps more people become aware and helps sort out the details well in advance.

West Coast Playa - It is my suspicion that you are affiliated formally or informally with NIRSA, NCCS, and/or NSC. I would like you to correct my thinking and identify which team you play for or coach. How exactly are you involved in club volleyball? Why are you reading/posting to this forum? Why did you join this forum only this summer with your supportive stance toward NIRSA and continually call NCVF members "idiots" "money grubbing thieves" and the like? For fairness, I'll send the first serve... my name is Dan and I've been involved with club volleyball for over 10 years. I currently serve as a club volleyball league commissioner and yes, I am a member of the NCVF. You will find me here: www.nccvl.infoIf you are indeed on the west coast and are a player or coach in my league, we need to talk. Please send me a personal message. If you are in the SCCVL you need to talk to Denny, and if you are in Oregon/Washington you need to talk to Tony out of Gonzaga. On to dubunk some of your recent round of claims. CBS recently bought out CSTV which is known for its internet broadcasting of college sports. So when you say CBS, that means the former CSTV arm of CBS (not CBS the national broadcasting network). Correct me if I'm mistaken. Also, this NIRSA/CBS affiliation was orchestrated by the for profit corporation arm of NIRSA... NSC (NIRSA Services Corporation). www.nirsa.org/Content/NavigationMenu/AboutUs/AffinityPrograms/Affinity_Programs.htmSo the NIRSA/CBS partnership isn't that at all. It is actually a NSC/CSTV partnership. This NIRSA/CBS (or NSC/CSTV) collaboration was already established previously to support INTRAMURAL basketball and flag football. Club volleyball folks around the country do not consider their highly competitive intercollegiate competitions, simple intramural activity. Many of the highest performing men's volleyball players go on to play on the AVP or in foreign professional leagues. The website of NIRSA's parter is called CBS intramurals! www.cbsintramurals.com/poweradewww.nirsa.org/Content/NavigationMenu/AboutUs/AffinityPrograms/powerade_cbs.htmNIRSA's 2010 national tournament might be streamed online, but my strong suspicion is it will not be on any major outlets or even minor ones on television. Teams and coaches expecting to say 'hi mom' on national television will be sorely disappointed. While NIRSA did partner with "Fox west" with the collegiate golf national championship, it seems more the work of the PGA and CGA in developing this partnership. www.cgagolflinks.com/ncgc.aspI highly doubt ESPN would waste their airtime with anything but professional sports or college football/basketball. Perhaps it might end up on ESPNU, but would most likely be subjected to a 1am time slot on a satellite TV station. Definitely not national coverage and exposure. Much like CBS intramurals above. Finally, Molten partners with many organizations and is the official supplier for USA Volleyball (whom is partnered with NCVF to run 2010 Nationals in Louisville, KY). NIRSA does not have an exclusive relationship with Molten whatsoever. www.moltenusa.com/contract/affiliations.pdfSo, westcoastplaya I do hope you can tell us all who you are and why you continue present misinformation here on this board and bad mouth the NCVF.

Thanks NCCVL. I am a coach and appreciate the fact that the NCVL is presenting facts rather than just trashing the other tournament. West coast obviously is a NIRSA employee and I don't think it's appropriate to trash talk. After reading all the post I would rather stick with the organization that is presenting facts rather than trashing talking. Sure seems like the majority of teams are going NCVF.
I did talk to my sports club director and told him if he would pay our bills to attend Nationals we would go to whatever tournament he said. He laughed and told us in this economy our season long budget has been cut to $500.00 so go to any tournament you want.

I am a long-time reader, first-time poster, former player and current coach. I don't understand why anyone would want to go with NIRSA at this point, when NCVF obviously has the best interest of club volleyball (and all of it's teams) in mind. Having followed this controversy, it is apparent that NCVF is presenting facts and backing it up with their names and contact information. It also is apparent that NIRSA is hiding behind the anonymity of this forum.
Future posters: PLEASE present facts and back it up with your name or email...something that lets us know that you have the best interest in collegiate club volleyball in mind.

Thanks for the positive response to my post. I have yet to receive a response privately or publicly from 'westcoastplaya'. When (or if) I do, I will post it to this forum so all can be informed of who this person is who consistently presents misinformation and slanders the NCVF. The NCVF which consists of over three decades of grassroots effort coordinating club volleyball leagues around the country. We are not new to the club volleyball scene. In fact Gary Colberg, who started the club national tournament and initially brought it to NIRSA, is on the NCVF Board of Directors. ncvfvolleyball.org/aboutus.aspxGary has received awards from USA Volleyball including the George J. Fisher Leadership award (1987) volleyball.teamusa.org/content/index/3465and the Dr. Harold T. Friermood (Frier) award (2003). usavolleyball.org/content/index/3461His wife Debbie is in the AVCA Hall of Fame. www.avca.org/awards/avca-hall-of-fame/debby-colberf/This is just one example of the type of experience and expertise that NCVF will be bringing to the NCVF National Tournament in Loiusville, KY in 2010. Please bear with us as we get the ball rolling, cross the t's, and dot the i's. More information will be distributed soon. All of the known club league commissioners around the country are on board with this effort. If you have questions, please contact your local commissioner. They can get you answers quickly! In the meantime, if you would like to show your support to the NCVF, we offer a way do so on our website. Go to: ncvfvolleyball.orgClink on the link titled "Endorse us now" and submit your comments on our efforts to bring a quality club national tournament to your team and league. We have all agreed to maximize the potential of this tournament while eliminating wasteful costs. NCVF Nationals will be crowing the Men's and Women's Club Volleyball National Champions in 2010!

I understand that NCVF will be allowing a college to send 3 teams to Nationals. A JV and a 3rd team will both be allowed to sign up for D3...for 2010 until an evaluation can be made how this affects competition.
There are a few schools who have a 3rd team....developmental.
We had 3 teams at our offseason November tourney last year....which condensed down to two during the regular season.
Remains to be seen what plans are for this year.
