I don't see why Tom Peterson is such a bad look. He does have two National Championships in the Men's game. One over UCLA in a huge upset. Maybe they should remember how they took them down. I don't know where he is now. . Tom Peterson is an asst at Utah State. He was the fall guy for an ineligibe foreign player at BYU. If I remember correctly, UCSB and UCLA made a stink, it was investigated, NCAA found the guy was eligible, but BYU fired Tom anyway. I do believe he got some money out of the deal - not Lindy Vivas money (settled out of court), but he got an apology and some cash. He's such a nice guy. Carl McGown guru. i have a little familiarity with this situation living in utah. byu did not apologize to tom peterson. they paid him through december and that was all. the foriegn guy in question was not even recruited by tom because the kid did not have the proper test scores. byu wanted him out and they looked for a reason. if a similar thing happened to a fb or bb coach, the AD would have backed him to the hilt, not kicked him to the curb. on a side note, recently byu has fired the women's golf coach and replaced her with a former QB who is now a fund raiser. trying to justify the amount of time he was spending on the golf course, i guess.

I don't know where he is now. Rod Wilde is living in cold Wisconsin...he would do a great job. Ron Larsen is at UC Riverside if I remember right. Shawn Patchell- Can't see this one happening. I think he has "0" experience with the women. What do I know it seems the trend this off season is getting assistants, or assistants with little experience....So it would make sense they just hire Karch ha ha. He has more experience then the hires this season. Why do you think Wilde would do a great job? Debbie Brown isn't going to be hired by UCLA away from Notre Dame. Maybe I used the word "great" loosely here, but I still think he would do a good job. He has a wealth of volleyball coaching experience in the men's game. I think he has a Gold medal as a player, and a couple of National Championships as a player and an assistant at Pepperdine. I think they were pretty good when he was at Wisconsin...There is my rational

You probably have better/more up-to-date info than I have. The information I was given was from a guy on the team who told me Tom was pursuing legal action and wanted an apology and to be paid through the year. Maybe Tom never pursued it. BYU Athletic Administration idiots were the reason I threw Shawn Patchell's name out there for the UCLA job. Not a happy place to be a coach!

Since this thread has deteriorated into a "catch all" for anything involving UCLA, I'll throw this out - what about Rob Patrick for the UCLA job? Let's look briefly at his resume (courtesy of the TN website): 13 years at Tennessee...five NCAA Tournament berths in the last six years, including a Final Four appearance (2005)...won 20 or more matches in six of the last eight seasons and seven times in the last ten years...ten year stretch of winning seasons marks the longest run in program history...American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) South Region Coach of the Year...two-time Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year...has compiled a 267-143 (.651) record and became the program's all-time winningest coach in 2008...nine All-Americans, 34 players selected to All-SEC teams, including the SEC Defensive Player of the Year (2004), Freshman of the Year (2007) and Libero of the Year (2009), 44 Academic All-SEC...Head Coach for the USA/Bring It Promotions u20 Development Team at the European Global Games in Pula, Croatia (2007 & 2008) with a third place finish (2007)...has been nationally ranked five times...three years as an Asst Coach at Stanford, the Cardinal were 92-6 with two NCAA championships (including a title-game victory over UCLA in 1994)...during that time Stanford never lost a home match, participated in a trio of NCAA Final Fours and won three consecutive Pac-10 titles...instrumental in the Cardinal's freshman class being ranked second in the nation by prep volleyball magazines in 1996 and coached the country's top class in 1994 (including the high school volleyball player of the year in both recruiting hauls)...during his three years at Stanford, he trained the 1994 and 1995 National Players of the Year, the 1994 and 1996 National Freshmen of the Year, 10 All-Americans and 14 All-Pac-10 selections, including Kerri Walsh, the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Olympics Beach Volleyball gold medal winner and current No. 1 female player in the world...also coached five players who were chosen to the 1995 U.S. Olympic Festival Teams and two players who were picked to play for the USA National Team...selected by USA Volleyball to evaluate and choose players for the Junior National Team and worked with the Director of Youth Development and Programs for USA Volleyball in assessing the players who were picked for the 1996 and 1997 Junior National Teams...chosen to coach at the USA Volleyball 14-and-under Junior Development camp in San Jose, California...as a club coach was active with two highly-successful programs - Griffin VBC in San Jose and South Bay VBC in Manhattan Beach where more than 20 of his former club players earned NCAA Division I volleyball scholarships to schools in conferences such as the Pac-10, SEC, ACC, Big West and West Coast...as a competitor, was a standout indoors and on the beach circuit, playing collegiate volleyball at Miami (Ohio), twice earning United States Volleyball Association All-America distinction and owning a AAA beach rating...participated in the USVBA Men's Open National Championships from 1986 to 1993 with his team finishing in the top four from 1989 to 1993 and playing in the 1991 championship match...his coed squad played in the Coed Open National Championships from 1986 to 1993 and reached the open division title match from 1989 to 1992 (winning national crowns in 1990 and 1992)...in the summer of 2006 he claimed another national championship, this time in the 40 & Over Division....bachelor's degree in business, with emphasis in accounting...vice president for a large homebuilding company for three years and served as a financial consultant in the real estate field industry, prior to beginning coaching. Now, I may be missing some things here since this comes from their website and is mostly prior to the 2009 season (although I tried to add in what I knew from this year, which was also very successful). Anyway, as a recap, you've got someone with successful coaching experience in the Pac-10 (2 National Championships & 3 Pac-10 Titles in 3 years); built TN into a perennial contender in the SEC (with a Final Four appearance & two-time National Coach of the Year); has successful playing experience both indoors & outdoors (not in and of itself worth mentioning, but coupled with his successful coaching experience is something I thought was pertinent, especially considering the California connection, which also includes past club experience); has sound business experience to add to his coaching ("real world experience" is always something valuable to bring to the table, especially in athletics - which afterall, is a business) and is President-Elect to the AVCA (which shows his commitment to the sport by serving his governing coaching body/organization). I don't know if he's interested or not, but shouldn't someone be considering him if they're throwing around names of assistant coaches with other programs as possibilities? Thoughts? Discussion points?

Patrick to UCLA? Well, moving your family to Los Angeles isn't easy. Cost of living, living in general, is more comfortable in Tennessee. To me, all the resume stuff doesn't matter. All that matters is can he coach, can he recruit, can he run a program.

In terms of moving his family, it's just him and his wife (no children), so it wouldn't be that difficult. I think he's as reasonable a consideration as some of the names I've heard mentioned so far.

Much more reasonable than some of the suggestions here. I don't mean to poo-poo the suggestion, just offering some potential roadblocks. And besides, Whitis in the big city, bright lights of L.A.? His head would explode.

How come people talk about exploding heads all the time but I've yet to see one? Of course, the same could be said about public breastfeeding and I've yet to see that either.

Exploding heads are actually much more internal than their moniker implies. It's more of a mental process than an actual shattering of the skull.

Yes, I've been to Europe. Dog poop everywhere. And dirty stinky restrooms. It's no wonder they had the plague.
