I said somewhere else that Stanford might not improve on what they showed in LA, and several clowns called me a moron for even suggesting such a thing. On the basis of this game, I would say that they haven't improved at all since that weekend. Maybe if Cook comes back, but the lack of firepower, defensive lapses, and over reliance on Klineman may persist to the end of the year. BTW, what's this crap about Wopat not showing up. She had 9 lousy attempts and killed five of them with one error. If everyone on the team hit like this, Stanford would have been good for about .450!

I am not really sure what you mean, but I will definitely be there when they meet in Haas Pavillon. It should be another amazing match. Another "amazing" match? Just on the stats and descriptions from others, this match looks pretty far from amazing. Stanford's hitting % in games 2-4 was hideous. If this is what we can expect from Stanford, I would expect Cal to sweep at home and probably win ugly. No, I doubt Cal has any chance to be #1, but they might deserve to be. Stanford, however, deserves to drop out of the top 5, but won't. Don't read too much into the previous comments. IMO, if Lichtman had set the way she did a week earlier against Washington, Stanford would have won. Many of the Stanford kills tonight were due to to the outstanding adjustments made by the hitters to really poorly placed sets. As I posted earlier, IMO Cassidy's worst setting. And to put things in perspective, now that the box score is up I see that Stanford, as a losing team, hit .268 and California .347. I am suggesting that while Stanford did not play as well as we fans are accustomed to, Cal played exceptionally well, and both teams probably would have beat most competition pretty easily. Yes, yes, holiday husker, your exception is noted in advance; spare me.

Is it too late to replace Browne? They couldn't replace Browne because the team only had two middle blockers in shape to play. Charlotte Brown and Jessica Walker didn't warm up. Jessica was not able to play, but she most certainly did warm up, taking her turns hitting, though she kept her warm-up jacket on the entire time. Lydia Bai was the other warm-up setter, though Lauren Karissa Cook was dressed, without boot.

JWalk just stood around in the last drill with her warm-up jacket on (which is the same drill at which Charlotte Browne and Karissa Cook hit the bench). I'm sorry if I condensed things in a misleading fashion.

I wish dunning would do post match interviews for losses like he does for wins.

I wouldn't expect SID to put together video for a loss. If the Bay Area papers covered the match, there will be comments in tomorrow's Oakland Tribune/Contra Costa Times and Palo Alto Daily News.

Both teams are subbing out their frosh OH and soph OPP with DS, leaving no backrow hitters when Murrey and Klineman are in the front. When the setter is also in the front hitting options become very limited. You know, this makes me think that Klineman and Williams should swap positions... Although Williams isn't really an OH1, it would add Klineman as a backrow option for two of the three rotations that Lichtman is setting from the front row. IIRC this is what the Stanford Men's Team did over the course of the past season with Brad Lawson and Spencer McLachlin, which accomplished exactly what you hope it would do with the switch with Klineman and Williams -- putting an incredible backrow (bic) hitter to add another offensive threat when you only have one OH and MB in the front row with the setter (three viable hitting options at all times). The Stanford Men's Team had a double threat with two backrow hitters when Kawika was in the front row setting (essentially having 4 hitting options at all times). A team like Washington could take advantage of this type of offensive line-up, since they already have Carlson hitting the D out of the backrow. If you have Perry in the OH2 spot, she could also hit out of the backrow for 2 rotations while Hagglund is in the front row, which would relieve more pressure off of Munoz (or Parker, if she is in).

There are several teams in the country that are better than Florida, some of them in the PAC-10 and some not. Keeping Florida at #1 is a damned joke. Their league is horrible and I mean horrible....as bad if not worse than Hawaii's conference so surprise that they beat everyone! They are not the best team in the country and when tournament time comes Mary Wise's team will do what it always does, which is NOT win a championship. Get em out of their gym and on the road, outside of their crappy conference and voila, they will lose. If they were in the PAC-10 they would be no better than 5th place, period.....

Overheard conversation between several Stanford fans: "It was a miracle that we lost. No, it was a miracle that they won! What happened to Klineman? They must have played the best match in the history of the program at Cal! No, we just had a career off night! Wow, glad we got that one out of our system, now we can play Stanford volleyball again, and be our usual arrogant selves! We ARE Stanford, and everyone knows that we are the absolute bestest school, athletic department, and volleyball program EVER! Boy, sure glad that we got this effort out of the way now, before the start of post season! Are we sure that half the team doesn't have Mono, or the Flu?" ;D
