I know this has already been discussed in past threads. But now that the pre-season is over and everybody is ready start the season, any new predictions? As far as conference titles, tournament titles?

I am pretty curious about the Hoosier-Illini tournament. I remember talk about it earlier in how for the past like three years the runner up wins it the next year. Is it at Illinois or Indiana this year?

Barring some development I don't know about, it will be at IU. It has never been at Illinois.

The tournament is at Indiana for sure. The only way to get into the tournament now is through an invitation.

I still think that Oshkosh is the team to beat. Until somebody knocks off the defending champs, I don't think anyone can truly say they are better than them. Although they lost JT and Bradley, they still have both Sederbergs and Semrad who are still a force, and Erikson who is playing better than I thought he would, and Aaron Wayne can still play defense and pass the ball. I think the achilles heel for this team is defense and passing though. The WVC and Midwest 10's I think will be dominated by Oshkosh, Lakeland, and Marquette again. As far as who comes out on top, I don't know. We all know what Oshkosh and Lakeland have, they are pretty much the same teams from last year, but as far as Marquette, the pre-season was a struggle for us after the Iowa tournament. We have a very similar team from last year, having only lost Tom, and our Setter and rightside. However, we have some freshman and experienced vets who are very good and have been waiting for their chance to show they can play, so I think a lot of our season will be based on whether or not those people who didn't see consistent time last year and are asked to play this year, step up and play. I think that most teams feel as though that since we lost Tom we are a lost cause and I think many teams will take us lightly, which is their loss, because after the first couple weeks I think we are going to be playing extremely well as a team and will surprise many teams.
MIVA's are still up in the air. Michigan St. has a huge team and is a great at hitting and blocking. They will be strong again. Illionis is, well, they are Illinois. We know that they will compete like they do every year, but I still think they will choke down the stretch because of their lack of team unity. I think MIVA's will come down to a battle between Michigan St., Illinois, and Wisconsin from the Big Ten and Oshkosh, Lakeland, and Marquette from the WVC.
I will say, from all the pre-season tournaments the team that surprised me the most was Wisconsin. They're outsides really stepped up and played well in the pre-season, and the team as a whole played real well together, and I am anxious to see if they can keep that up this semester. I think they are a darkhorse to surprise many teams and make some upset bids like Marquette.

I agree about UW-O and Lakeland being at the top of Midwest 10, but I'm not so sure MU will be in the top three, four or even five this year. There are just some mid-level teams in that conference who stepped it up in the past year and pre-season that I simply see as better as MU right now. As for MIVA contenders, I see it being won by the one of the top two in MW10 or Big 10: UW-O, Lakeland, Illinois, or Wisconsin. Michigan St. will most likely finish 3rd in the Big 10 but I don't see them being at the same level as Illinois and UW.

There is an email on the NIRSA website under the tourney area for info and signups for Las Vegas. The website link there, however, does not work. Use the email.

I was at that site just a few days ago so I don't know what happened to the site. But quick update...Central Florida has updated thier site at www.knightvolleyball.com with more information on the Spring Shootout tournament on March 10-11. Still plenty of room so if you're interested check out the site.

Hoosier Illini Info is on the website: www.indiana.edu/~imvbc/pages/hiclassic.html The idea that it is invite only at this point is correct. I guess it will be reopened to other teams after responses from invited teams are returned. As far as competition this year goes, I have only seen a couple of the top teams from the Midwest and one from the east, those teams being Illinois, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Penn State. Of these Illinois is solid (especially against us) at every position. Michigan State is big, however I wonder about them in the "Big" matches. They lost the first game to us and beat the hell out us with that block in games 2 and 3. But then they turned around and lost to Illinois State the next morning in the tourney, GO FIGURE. I didnt watch Wisconsin because Clint was playing with them (as a middle I believe, versatiilty rules!!!) and he noted he wouldn't be playing all season. Penn State is scary because their big outside can probably beat you alone with minimal help. Their middles are underrated, and they play well together so they have the ability to be a serious force. And once again if history replays itself last years runner-up, Lakeland should win Hoosier Illini and the National Championship.

It didn't work for me either, but then I typed in the website -- www.indiana.edu/~imvbc -- and that worked. Then I clicked on the Hoosier Illini link at the bottom. Any idea on who is going? The field is usually rather exceptional.

I think it's funny how weak a lot of the teams are mentally. It doesn't seem to matter how many years these players have played at a top level, if you start getting in their face they crack. Oshkosh is the only physically overpowering team I've seen all year, and even they are beatable if you get in their heads. I think making predictions is stupid because of how open the entire country is this year.

I bet the reason the link in the earlier post did not work is that a period is at the end of the www link. www.indiana.edu/~imvbc/pages/hiclassic.htmlwithout a period at the end the above link works just fine. (not that I haven't made the same error a million times when posting a link). In fact I should have figured it out by looking at it carefully....duh
