the school pays for it so we have to use the money or they will just take it away.

I think Lakeland will drop a match sometime in the day just cause they don't have a break until the last match of the day. But who knows, maybe they are all in shape enough to handle the day.

Maybe we have a 3-way tie between UW-O, Lakeland and Marquette? UW-O beats Marquette, Lakeland beats UW-O, and Marquette beats Lakeland (last match of the day for both anything can happen)...

Long story short....UIC can't get organized enough to field a team consistently. This is especially true in the spring. I thought they were going to just go to MW 10's and MIVA's so they could go to Nationals, but apparently that isn't the case
Same story last year, where the team in the fall was pretty good, and even had enough turnout to have a B team, and they came back in the spring and half the team was gone.
It's really sad considering how many former all state/conference players go there and don't play. The city is great, but when most of the guys live 1 hour plus from school, the commitment isn't as strong as it should be.

Think of all the big universities that have tons of all conf, all area, all state players that just feel like joining a frat or want to just be done. When you get to college you have choices to make now that your on your own: school, drinking and partying, or continue with sports. Illinois on one side has tons of players come in and they grab most of them because of the kids love of the game but they do lose some, you could use Iowa as an example were i know that there are at least 3 or 4 players that could have been all state if they would have made the tourney, it just sucks because Iowa University misses out on a ton of potentially great players. It sucks but thats life, too bad kids dont realize how much fun you can still have along with concentrating on school and still going out and managing your social life.

that's why u need a strong team leader willing to push the club....aka send mailings to kids in the area, or go to JOs and recruit....u gotta sell those aspects to the guys and sell that ur club is up and coming or w/e and u'll get ur players to play. I guess it's just a matter of who wants the responsibility of taking your club to the next level.

I was the VP of that team last year, and luckily now I am graduated and playing USAV, which so far IMO has been more fun. (maybe thats just because its an escape from work, and my team is actually talented now). Either way, it took massive amounts of effort to get that team to function. I ran our website, designed our jerseys, and got mucho $$$ in sponsorships just so we could afford to go to the fun tourneys (Hoosier Illini, etc.), have warmups, etc. Our Pres., while a good guy, micro managed everything to the point where the team was crippled when he left, he ran everything for like 5 years. It took a power struggle just to get to that point where I had any control. For a lot of the guys, its like the harder we pushed to be more of a skilled team, it scared guys away who wanted to be nothing more than a glorified drinking team. Then the guys who were into academics more got turned off by them. It was just ugly. Trust me, I had dreams of turning the team around, and we were getting there. Its funny how its hard to start a winning tradition, but once you get it going its hard to break. (Oshkosh, Illinois, MU, etc.) Anyways...so goes the story of club volleyball.

Hey Jason, why don't you grow a pair and tell them what you really think......... On another note I can't wait to pound the ball, see you all in DeKalb. Here's the big pair...what I really think is that talentwise we (UW-M) can put a competitive team together. Actual play on the court is another matter because when we hit a rough patch we fail and look for every excuse in the book as to why we didn't win. We have the ability to hang with any team in our conference, just not the confidence to play, willingness to sacrifice to improve, or the heart to pull ourselves out of a rut. I would love to say that we're going to pull some upsets and make some noise, but honestly when we have difficulty beating six people in practice who know each other's names and not much else, we're not going to be too competitive against teams who can play ball in the dark. As for Iowa St., sorry, but I've never seen a consistant team and I remember at MIVA's last year when one player had to put on another jersey because he had too much to drink at Skybox and puked on his original. That's not really dedication (to volleyball, but it is dedicated drinking).

As for consistency, I totally agree. I think at least with our head case from past years gone we at least my seem like more of a team, but all in all we do like to have a good time.

I'm pretty sure that those matches will be played before the Midwest 10 Championships at Marquette in March. There just isn't enough time in the day to get all the teams to play each other.

That is correct. Any head to head matchups that don't occur this weekend happen at the second weekend of MW10 before the bracket play starts.

I heard some whisperings that NIU beat Lakeland, Oshkosh and Marquette already. Why is nobody talking about them if this is the case?

NIU beat Marquette last semester in the pre-season at NIU's home tournament, but the two teams have yet to play this semester
