If anyone cares what I think, about six hours ago I posted my projected field of 64 along with regional hosts. Mouse that hyperlink or mouse the house next to my handle for that and the other D-III volleyball stuff I do. From what I've heard, Eastern can not host due to logistical details. I'd bet Juniata or Salisbury hosts depending on who the at-large shakes out & what the travel situation looks like. That's an unfortunate logistical detail. EU usually has a good home-court advantage. Good on any court, but that place gets hyped. At least that's my takeaway when I watch online. EDIT: If there's a regional in Virginia like I think there will be, I think most of the Maryland/DC teams will go there. That would leave Juniata as the next best option, in my opinion. Eastern finally has the edge over JC and it can't take advantage, assuming you're correct. That's gotta sting a little, especially if EU has to play in Huntingdon.

There is an AQ in New England (Westfield State @ 15-20) that is UNDER .500?! That is messed up! And it must really stick in the craw of the regionally ranked teams in NE that won't get into the NCAA tourney as a result of the number of Pool A bids. That is probably occurs in all of the regions, but I've only been paying attention to the New England region.
Question: how long has the current process been in place? Was there every a time when the top 8 regionally ranked teams got into the NCAA tournament, regardless of who the various conference champions were?

Until just a couple of years ago, the ENTIRE field was 48! Given the automatic qualifiers, that meant that there were only like 4 at-large bids at ALL! The D3 tournament was, for all intents and purposes, a tournament of conference champs. That was it.

I'm fairly certain it was a 62 team field when I was a freshman... 10 years ago....

I dont know when the AQ push came but I would say in the 90's it was 48ish. It is a formula based on sponsorship and in my time it seems like a slot has been added every other year.

Well, it isn't super promising that the selection show that was supposed to happen yesterday (DIII field hockey) still doesn't have a link.... I'm not optimistic for today.

Does D3 always move teams from region to region when setting the tournament?
At the last poll, Washington-St. Louis was the top team in the Central region, but they were moved to Midwest while a couple of Wisconsin teams from the Midwest region were moved to the Central.
