Any links for the games in NM tomorrow? Yes, there is a link on the NM Lobos website to watch online I believe. I'm so excited (even though I know they will change it up) to see who plays where tomorrow morning against UTEP. I really wish we had a HUGE game right off the bat to prepare us for Florida, it will be a tough match at Florida. NM will be a fun team because they have height and I think they are picked to win their conference this season, Hook 'em!

Thanks! And texasnewbie it should be interesting. I know we will be in a 6-2 (think it will change midway through season or so) but like you I'm really anxious to see who plays where. Should be a fun first weekend.

Should be a fun first weekend. Since they are playing in Hattis' home city, she will likely start all weekend in order to play in front of her friends and family. I would then not be surprised to see a different lineup the following weekend at Florida.

During her interview Thursday night on the LHN, Baker said she still feels pain in her knee when she lands on 1 leg and is working on consistently landing correctly when she hits. Don't know what was going on yesterday, but she looked slow and tentative a lot of the time. I hope Baker recovers quickly. Tiffany was an effective OH playing with Robinson at TN in 2012, and so was surprised by the play so far this year; that does explain it. Saw her looking good in TN win over the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa two years ago - high potential is there when healthy. Wanted to wish the Horns the best this year prior to the first whistle in a few hours. In part, I fall in the Anyone But PSU camp. Texas is one of the 6-8 teams that could unseat the Lions which would be nice.

But, I'm not convinced Coach Elliott will start Hattis just because the team is playing in he home state. He tends to "reward" players for their efforts in practice. Based solely on the scrimmage, I wouldn't pencil in Hattis is winning a starting spot to begin the season. I do think she'll play a lot today, especially since there are two matches in one day. But, I'm guessing she'll come in during the second or later sets. Chiaka and Cat McCoy were interviewed on a volleyball segment on last night's Longhorn Extra (daily Texas sportcenter type show).
During football season, LHN produces a weekly 30 minute Texas Football All Access show. It's a HBO Hark Knocks type show that follows the football program. Very well produced. Wish they would do the same for the volleyball program.

I saw a segment on a local Austin TV station where Chiaka was interviewed, and then Coach Elliott. He talked about getting her even more sets based on how well she is playing.

Thought I would move Southie's post from the Nebraska game thread here for further discussion.
Very good point made about Amy Neal's role as OH in the current lineup. I agree it's not as if there are many other options if Victoria is off her game and Elliott feels that Prieto and Baker cannot contribute at this time.
I do wish we knew more about the situation with Baker and Prieto. I understand about Baker not being 100%, but she did play a match in the Austin tournament and actually looked pretty good. I know it was against lesser competition, but she did show good hitting form, etc.
The situation with Prieto is frustrating, because she looks like she belongs on the front row. A very strong hitter and very feisty and assertive court personality. I don't think her lack of blocking ability (if that is what it is) could be the issue because it's not like Neal contributes much to blocking.
I don't think Prieto is hurt, so the only other thing I can think about is that it's related to the number of substitutions running a 6-2. Elliott needs the 2nd OH to play all around, especially if he needs Brooks to sub for Eckerman. Prieto and Baker are not going to play back row, so that gives Amy a big edge since she can play all around.
Thoughts?
