From
Kind of freaky. All the residents of the town were driving in different parts of the country when they somehow arrived at the town.

Doing a rewatch of Seinfeld, just started Season 6. The more I watch, the more I respect Jason Alexander and how his George held the glue for the show.

Whenever I can in the daytime, I'm watching Wolf Hall (2015), the BBC miniseries about Thomas Cromwell and the usual cast of characters during that time -- Henry VIII, Thomas More, Anne Boleyn. I absolutely love it. It's the kind of political intrigue and writing I love.
It's based on the Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name by Hilary Mantel (who died in 2022).

FX released a new (red band) trailer for Shogun, a new adaptation of James Clavell's acclaimed bestseller:
I have vague memories of watching reruns of the 1980 NBC adapation with Richard Chamberlain, although that show focused more on Chamberlain's character, Blackthorne, and his perspective and neglected the Japanese characters. It was ages ago since I read the novel (it took me a long time read it, it was over a 1000 pages long, but you don't feel its length, because it is such a gripping page-turner). But I do remember the novel by contrast focused a lot more on the motivations, power struggles and machinations of the Japanese characters. Like I mentioned earlier, it has a certain "Game of Thrones" vibe to it (rumor has it that George R.R Martin developed some inspiration for his GOT novels from Shogun). We'll see if this latest TV adaptation does justice to the Japanese characters in Shogun.

I have the entire Friday Night Lights and Season One of Picket Fences on disc. With scripted programs not slated to return until mid-February at the earliest time to watch some other stuff. Mentioned it in the movie thread but got through Batman Begins and the Dark Knight. I was just thinking about Picket Fences the other day and that I really liked that show. I was probably in my early teenage years and still got most of it. When Tom Skerritt was playing the sax and someone said he was going through his Wilson Pickett phase, I just thought it was great writing (Or some writing like that) and fyvush finkel and the kid wanting to be Jewish…just good stuff.

My wife likes "Euphoria" starring Zendaya. But I am really not the type that is into teen angst drama. That's just not my....cup of tea. But she insist it's pretty good. Any of you guys watched it? Should I tip my toes and give it a watch?

Anyone seen "Masters of the Air" on Apple TV? How is it so far? Worth watching?
Btw, behind-the-scenes feature of the FX Shogun series is released:
Can it stand on its own as an adaptation or will it live in the shadow of the 1980 series?

My nephew and nieces seem to enjoy the Sonic movies (and I mildly enjoyed playing the Sonic games back in the 90s), now Paramount+, seeing the success of the Sonic movies, have made a TV spinoff focused solely on Knuckles. Yep, I think my nephew and nieces will jump at this:
This may keep your kids occupied for a little while, hehehe.

Of course, Cromwell's story didn't ultimately end well for him. Henry had him executed. (And then, later, seemed to think that maybe he had made a mistake, but oops! Too late now!) Cromwell arranged for Henry to marry Anne of Cleves, and passed along a portrait of her that everyone agrees was very misleading. Anne was actually reportedly a very "plain" woman, but her portrait (painted by Hans Holbein) showed her to be prettier than she actually was. Henry was very annoyed (and ultimately divorced Anne). As Cromwell had been the one who set up the marriage, Henry became angry at him. That gave an opening for Cromwell's many enemies to accuse him of treason.

That's with Mark Rylance as Cromwell right? How does it compare with the book?

FX has released the final trailer for Shogun:
FX even did a "Cliff Notes" quick primer on the historical background to Shogun, hehe:
Rotten Tomatoes is giving the series 100% rating so far, with critics praising the Game of Thrones-like power struggles, sex and intrigue, bloody and brutal sword fights characteristic of samurai films and the cultural clash between a Western and Japanese's view on life and death. But those are still early reviews, we'll see how it scores later on.
