A ton of upsets in pool. The 1,3,5,6,7,8 seeds all fail to win their pools. Kerri/April need to get their act together. They have a win and three ninths in their last four tournaments and that simply isnt good enough for a team that talented. The teams they are losing to arent top teams either.

After four USA men's teams won their pools in Long Beach, no USA men's teams won their pool this week. There was always a USA team on Stadium Court in Long Beach. Maybe home court advantage is bigger than I thought in beach volleyball.

I think its probably an emotional hangover as much as anything. Phil/Sean about to go out to New Zealand.

If Phil and Sean had gone out to the Dutch or Germans then maybe, but losing to Australia is simply a lack of focus on their part. Australia has one finish above a 17th this year. Thats a team that a focused Sean/Phil walk over. Same with Doherty/Lucena and the Canadians. I like Redmann a lot, I played against him when he was in (I think) NJ for a Toyota tournament so I root for him, but he and Hatch simply cant compete with Nick/Ryan when they are on their game. Watching Casey/Jake v the Brazilians. Its the stream in part but none of these guys look dynamic.

Some shake up on the Brazilian women's side too. Maria Clara now playing with Lili instead of sister Carol. I believe they've played together before.

Just looked at the results so far. The prospective all-Brazil women's final (whether gold or bronze) would be fun.
Kind of a shock to see Dalhausser/Rosenthal out, but everybody has a bad day. They also stayed in Long Beach longer than anyone.

The world is getting better all the time, Kerri is getting older and April is no Misty, but shes a great player in her own right... whatever happens down the line happens. We know from experience you can't predict what will happen in Rio from the next two seasons or so... the Olympics are different.

You say that, and maybe they bounce back, but this four tournament stretch probably represents the worst run of Kerri's career (absent the times when she was not fully back from pregnancy). This is a problem for those two. Add in the near loss to Fendi/Sweat at the AVP and they have been playing poorly for over a month. Australia looking to double up on the huge upsets, up 17-15 in the first
