Texas A&M Signs One for 2015“We are really fortunate to sign Kaitlyn,” Corbelli said. “She’s going to make a huge impact in how high our team can play, and she’ll be an enormous threat at the net. As a coach, if you are only signing one, you sure hope you get someone with this kind of talent and potential. And the fact that she is coming in January is a major bonus for our program.”

Gamecock Volleyball Signs Furlong for 2015"We are thrilled to have Courtney Furlong joining our program in 2015," Swanson said. "Courtney is the strong, physically gifted player that we need to anchor one of our outside hitting positions. We believe that Courtney will have an immediate impact on a team that will be gunning for an NCAA Tournament bid next season."

I almost went with Smith as well. Honestly thought Payton Harris looked a bit better and they won. Stat wise it wasn't as close, but Harris went up against LSU hitters and Smith went against Miss State hitters. I would have had Reuter over Alhassan as well for Freshman of the Week but not my call. Nobody stood out offensively from the outside this week other than Reuter. Recek had a good match but Wise rotates those outsides and if one has an average night it hurts their chances to put up meaningful numbers. Right side could have been really interesting this week with Furtado breaking out after her injury this year and Reasor at TAMU had a good match but they played only once this week. I myself, would not have gone with Smith because LSU played Tenn and Miss State this week. Against Miss State she had 4 receiving errors and one at a critical time in the 5 set. If you did not go with Harris this may have been a good week to have a MB who had a big blocking week.

Sounds like a good talent, but with Sullivan a Senior and Babers a junior at MB next year I think it would be tough to break in for playing time. The strength of TAMU is the play of the MB this year.

First the Corbelli's have for the last few years had many players come into the program in January rather than in the summer. Going back a few years I remember Mary Battis group seemingly starting this trend. As for Kaitlyn Blake, she is listed as an outside and middle. I would think that playing time for 2015 would come on the outside. Hardesty, Lowak and McGee would be our returning outsides with any playing time. The question is does she play OH and can she pass. I have not seen either and wont be able to see her in club season like I usually see during qualifier season with her enrolling in January. I am not sure that early enrollment is always best due to lack of practice time during spring vs. a open level club season. I doubt she replaces either middle for 2015 and based upon verbals likely is being groomed for the outside.
Prep has her listed as in the mid 20's on the senior list and also has her listed as a OH/MB. OH wouldn't be a bad option with some of the right sides like Rivers and Holston especially if she is a good blocker.

I just do a libero of the week on the team not a defensive player of the week like the SEC. I am surprised that neither Holman nor the Missouri outside received any award this past week from the SEC. I think Payton has done a very good job being thrust into the role with McVey and another DS transferring last season

It's been remarkable to me, also, that as Clark-Bibbs has put up fantastic numbers over the past 3-4 weeks, she has gotten no love from the conference. Not really saying that the voted-on POTW winners haven't been deserving, but there is no doubt that Chanell has been deserving as well. She is the only player in the conference, for example, that is in the SEC top 10 in five categories (per Arkansas VB twitter): hitting percentage (4th), kills/set (8th), aces/set (8th), blocks/set (5th), and points/set (8th). And that's hitting the sets of a freshman setter who has struggled with location at times this year.

Clark Bibbs has been on a second half of the season surge. That said you have Alhassan and Holman who consistently put up great numbers in the middle. Clair has had monster numbers over the past couple of weeks before her injury. Sullivan and Babers are the reason for TAMU being a NCAA team with an outside shot at a seed. That said if Arkansas would have played two matches this week and her numbers had been as impressive as the one match she would have been in line for some honors. As for this week Clark Bibbs had 16 kills in a five set match (3.2 per set) in a near five set loss at home to South Carolina. What I would like to see from Arkansas is high level production from all three of these players (Hays, C C-B and Fortado). It seems for various reasons, injuries etc., only one or two really have a huge outing during a match.

Fortado was injured early in season and did not play the OOC schedule. I thought Arkansas was going to have a pretty good year even with a new setter but injuries and not firing on all cylinders has caused a down season.

It seems for various reasons, injuries etc., only one or two really have a huge outing during a match. I'm not really disagreeing with you - like I said, I don't think the other players haven't deserved their recognition. The timing of Clark-Bibbs's "spurt" has not been to her advantage - she's had very good weeks when other players have also. I guess I could quibble with you about the meaning of her numbers against SC (without her production, they lose), and last week she was on fire in two road wins (albeit against non-stellar competition in UGA and Auburn). Fortado has had an injury plagued career at Arkansas. She was pretty darn strong as a freshman, then last year missed most of the season, and this year missed all of preseason and the first part of the conference season, too. I also feel that the setting has really been difficult for her. Hankenson over-utilizes Hays, even when Fortado is an option. So in some matches Fortado gets very few sets and it's very hard for her to get into a rhythm. They also run a side out play where CCB runs the slide and Fortado comes around for a two in front of the setter, but I have never -- not ONCE -- seen Hankenson set Fortado on the play. I mean - CCB has been money lately, but EVERY ball? The sets that Hankenson puts up to the back pin have also been pretty inconsistent. That's why it has taken CCB most of the season to heat up. If you watched the early Arkansas matches, the slide sets were literally all over the place, and CCB was clueless as to what to expect. She must have hit about 50% of her sets from behind her head. I think Hankenson is talented and athletic, but she did not come in with a lot of experience setting high level volleyball. She is still working out the delivery of the kind of balls Fortado can take a rip at. Next year could be quite interesting, provided Fortado (knock wood) stays healthy. And they can find someone to replace some of Hays' production. (And re: the last point -- I don't think they have someone who can do this that is currently on campus.)

Vb shrink.... I find it interesting that Aubrey Edie the setter at Ole Miss is from Fayetteville. Was she not recruited to Arkansas, did she choose Ole Miss over Arkansas or something else. Living in a college town as a high school student i know it may be the i have got to get away from this place as well. I havent really looked at set location, decision making etc. between the two setters but Edie is doing more statisically with less weapons.

Alabama Inks Three During Early Signing Period"I think we added another quality group of student-athletes with this class," said Head Coach Ed Allen. "They will help push this program forward culturally, academically and athletically. I am pleased with their level of athleticism and they should challenge for playing time right away."

I am watching the SC vs TN match and neither team looks good. I noticed earlier in the year that Scott Swanson lost a lot of weight. Tonight he almost looks too thin and sickly. I hope he is okay, and not sick. Hopefully he just got a little carried away with a diet and will gain some back during the off season.
