Yes, my original post on this was incorrect. It is Hochevar registered with Hughes and not Carico. Sorry about that.

No longer showing Fendrick/Sweat. Walsh/Ross also gone! Showing Pavlik/Fopma in qualifier. Of course, we know Fopma isn't playing. And with Hughes playing with Carico, who can/does Pavlik pick up? Should know later today when the qualifier technical meeting is held. wow! wonder if Pavlik is going to even try to get there. There you go. Probably a smart move for April/Kerri, of course they are better off financially than some of the other teams. A week and a half off will pay dividends down the line. I'm actually curious about Walsh-Ross pulling out. There are only two more shots left this year at big money purses - Stare Jablonki then (allegedly) Brazil a month later. Plus a couple of AVP events that are comfortably spaced out. And honestly, the AVP is like taking candy from little kids for April and Kerri, they don't have to exert 100% effort to win. So there's only really four or maybe five - at most - events left this season for Walsh/Ross. So while I get that Stare Jablonki is a long way from L.A., it's not like they're paying for the trip (USAV) or hotel/chow (FIVB), and it's not like either of them to pass up a $400K Grand Slam. Some nagging injuries that need to heal, maybe? IDK, I personally find it kind of unusual. BTW, Poland is an EU country - no visa needed.

I was wondering about the money that they are passing up as well. They would need to finish 9th(?) or lower to get less money than winning an AVP event. 9th is almost automatic for them.

Maybe Fendi if Brooke cant go? I think it would have to be someone who has a visa already, so Her or Lane would be my guess? US nationals dont need a visa to travel to Poland, although they may for a sort of work thing like this.

That was my thought, since they would be earning money they'd need a visa. But that point is moot as Klazk stated the above.

I know it's the qualifier and the Nystrom twins aren't a consistent main draw team (especially this year), but I still think this is a pretty impressive showing by a new team.

That's pretty emphatic.
A Hochevar/Hughes tandem is kind of 'land of the misfit toys,' isn't it? They've both struck me as the kind of players others will have as a partner for a brief while before finding a more permanent one (Hochevar especially). I know Summer Ross had dalliances with both.

Jake and Casey got in, both Canadian teams didn't make it in.

I havent seen Brittany play a ton but the couple times I have I really enjoyed her intensity

Oh she's an entertaining player. No question *at all* about that. But she's also just seemed like a stop on the road for...well, everybody. I guess Carico is the latest, even though I thought Britt was the better player of that partnership based on what I saw from Long Beach (I've seen people sing Carico's praises, but I just didn't see it when I saw her play).

I think on the female side there is an issue with overly intense competitors. It could be thats the issue some have with Britt. I dont know if it is but I think the "Lets all get along" sort of attitude that prevails too often on the women's side could be profitably dispensed with a little.
Players like Hov, Stokie, Karch on occasion, and other great male players, as well as a few females like EY, could really intimidate players with their temper and fire and Id like to see more of that on both sides

Carico was dead awful in Long Beach - but I'm guessing it had something to do with a partnership that had run its course. Sometimes different temperaments are good, sometimes they are oil and water. (To be clear, I like Hochevar's intensity, but it's not everybody's cup of tea). In MB, I think you saw a very different Carico and she was a game away from making the finals with a pretty untested partner. Seems like it's been a tough year for her - big expectations at the beginning and then fighting injuries, getting used to FIVB travel for the first time and a partnership that didn't click (not just personalities, but both are defenders). Hope she can finish out the season with some strong finishes and set herself up for next year.
