I'll admit my comment was a little heated. But my main point is that we need to hold our state to a higher standard. I remember times when this state produced great talents and had incredibly competitive and skilled teams. I want this sport to grow but growing through mediocrity is not the way to go. If we keep telling "okay" players that they're elite growth of our players diminishes. Let's stop sugar coating and be real. Who are these great players that we used to produce. Are you going back to Tom Sorenson or Jeff Nygaard days because I would agree that we have not had players as successful as them at the next level. However, back when they played the state tournament was not that competitive.

In your opinion if volleyball is so weak and embarrassing then why don't you get off your ass, take a coaching position and help raise the level of play to a standard that won't be so embarrassing to you? The people I coach with and against are very talented, knowledgeable and extremely hard working men and women. We all bust our butts and give everything we have to the kids we coach to not only develop their skills but also to make them better men. I find it highly offensive that you sit on your high horse and criticize the work that so many of us do or the hard work that these players put forth. Anyone worth a plug nickel, instead of complain about something when other people are doing the work should pick up a shovel (so to speak) and join in. This goes to all of you that want to criticize the players or coaches, get all your wonderful plans together and let's see what you bring to the table other than negativity. In defense of Chris Dibb winning coach of the year, he was one of several deserving coaches this year. Chris has built a very strong program, Franklin had an excellent year this year and had match point against us at sectionals and very nearly beat us. I think Chris was a very good choice for coach of the year and I for one am very happy for him! Lay off the negativity people, please! It's done and over, great job to Marquette on winning another championship and good job to the rest of the players and coaches for again making it an outstanding season of volleyball. I wish all of you the best with your club tryouts and your seasons!

Wow, this forum went old school.
The Word is not only out of line, but wrong. Pat and Will hit the nail on the head when they talked about finishes at Nationals. We always tend to romanticize the past. The fact is the game is much fast than when I played and it was faster then than 7 years before that. It's a changed game by rule or by style. Play is allowed to be sloppier if it is faster. I'll admit there are times when I feel like some people get overly complimentary to players, but I'm not one to step in and say its hurting the game.
One point I'd like to bring up is the level of play from the liberos (and generally the backcourt defenses) in the finals especially. Those guys controlled the court in a way that all young liberos should look up to. Fantastic stuff.

Chris has built a very strong program, Franklin had an excellent year this year and had match point against us at sectionals and very nearly beat us. So the criteria for STATE WIDE coach of the YEAR is just building a "strong" program. Interesting ... we should have had 20 co-coach of years then.

It sure isn't but I take no issue with it going to Chris and that's coming from someone that might have been in the running for it myself.

Any ideas when/where all-conference teams will be available?

Here is the link to the Male Athlete of the year for the FVA. Currently Liam Mahoney is in the lead (OH Appleton North) with Carter Belling (OH Kaukauna) in second. Seeing as most of you have played against them or seen them play I figured this would be a good place to put it. www.fvasports.net/page/show/1515627-fva-fall-male-athlete-of-the-yearPersonally I would vote for Liam Mahoney

Thanks for sharing. Congratulations to everyone who earned any kind of All-State, All-Area, All-Conference, POY, COY, and any kind of championship (conference, sectional, tournament). What these teams show me is that there was talent spread out around the state, maybe moreso than any year I can really remember. No 2 players from 1 team on First Team, 3 from Brookfield East, 2 from Marquette, and 2 from Racine Horlick overall. Otherwise you have a lot of standout individuals from a number of different teams. This seems to be different from most years when you would have multiple players from a couple of different teams (MUHS, CMH, Burlington, Tosa East immediately come to mind for recent past). I don't feel as though the talent in the state is any worse than it has been, and to be quite honest it may be even better than most years, it's just that the talent happened to be spread out more between different schools than it usually is, which is a good thing for the sport. There are no completely dominant players like a Novotny or Dejno, but the depth in the senior class was very strong. Hopefully young kids in those areas took notice, went and watched matches, and saw how fun volleyball can be. Grow the game.

Agree with Pat that talent was there once again this year.
