Stanford has looked like a machine on occasion this year. There is an element of other top teams, like Penn State and Nebraska, adjusting to new players and coming on strong later. That may come back to bite the Cardinal, but they can still play with anyone. I believe Stanford is better emotionally to withstand a blitz like that which occurred in Berkeley a couple years ago. (And Michigan looks to be in some trouble this year.)

Cal seems to be searching for an identity. Stanford looks strong, a Top 8 team. However I don't see them being able to win. Something is missing? ?? The thing that is missing is strong outside hitting. Basically an "A" hitter who can put the ball to the floor when passing breakdowns pretty much force the setter to go "left side." Stanford looks like a machine when they pass at a high level because then they can deploy their middle attack which currently has a hitting efficiency above .500.
