She's an elite volleyball player, her unhappiness is the result of her not performing to her expectations and losing matches that she believes they would have won if she could perform like last season. The smile will return when she can play at 100%. The winning is a bit more complicated Exactly! That anyone can take her unhappiness as an indication that she's upset with her coach, team, or school seems silly when she has such a significant injury and may be playing in quite a bit of pain. It would be very frustrating to be a player of her caliber and due to injury not be able to play close to the level she knows she could play otherwise. I suspect reaching and trying to make this a commentary on how she feels about Mick is just a way to beat up on a man many don't like. I can't blame fans of other teams hoping she will transfer but what are the odds that is going to happen?

Yeah if Asia Kaczor had not missed a serve Southern Cal would have beaten Stanford and would have played for the National Championship. Stanford? I'm corn-fuzed. We must have been on different planets. ...named to the NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship All-Tournament Team after posting 29 kills and nine digs in a five-game loss to No. 1 seed Stanford in the national semifinal match. 2007

I thought it was tonight. I get season tickets but only get to see them when work permits. Who won? From the subject line of this thread and the subsequent posts before your question, did you really have ask? Maybe it was a case where hope sprang eternal no matter what the indications were otherwise. The weekly poll usually ends on Wens.............did not Southern Cal know played Tues.

USC struggles continue. This time with a 4-set loss to a solid Arizona State team. There's nothing really to report on. Bricio contributed most of the offense for SC finishing with 21 kills. Still lots off questionable set location. I am not impressed with Pizzasegola at all. Young is not mobile enough for a 5-1 offense. Whittingham was not bad but USC defense all around was not good, along with the block repeatedly getting tooled.
Enough cannot be said about losing Shaw and Hagglund. Shaw was a key player even since she was a freshman until she was a 6 rotation OH for the other three years of her career.
I'm not really impressed with Anne Marie either. Gillis looks like she's just in too deep..
Southern California is a hot MESS.

Yikes..........................could this be the 1st season in Micks tenure that they dont host the 1st round or maybe miss the NCAA'S? They would have to be ineligible for the tournament to miss it. USC's SOS is too good...they can take a lot of losses and still have an RPI that easily puts them in the tourney. I'm starting to wonder if they'll even be eligible now.

Stockpiling supposedly terminal hitters isn't working out, at least they've changed that recruiting strategy lately (sarcasm intended). Mick needs to wake up with regard to how he builds a team through recruiting. I know it sounds silly to criticize a guy that's been successful for so long, but SC is in line for more of the same in the future.

Washington next, then a visit to WSU and then the mountain schools, presumably at home. SC is looking at a 0-3 start, and if they don't get to 3-3 could be in some trouble. Oregon State appears much tougher this year and Cal showed signs of gaining a personality last night. Add the Arizonas not folding up against the LA schools and that spells a difficult Pac 12 all the way around.

I wouldn't write off USC just yet. As far as winning the PAC 12 title, I have. You have to at least hold serve at home in order to be a contender. As far as hosting NCAA first and second round games, I have. Too many losses already with a bunch of heavyweights still to come.

Why can't Mick develop some of these terminators into at least decent passers? Isn't that's what coaching is all about? It's not just all about Xs and Os only. I mean, no player is coming into your program a totally complete player.

But since Bricio hasn't been amazing w/ her ball handling skills and the libero has been very underwhelming, it's lead to a disastrous start of the season. I recall when Jupiter first came in she was pretty iffy on ball control and Mick seemed willing to let her struggle thru it. It paid off down the road but boy was it a rocky one.

USC's struggles has a great deal to do with the loss of Sara, Nat, and the fact that neither of their setters are deceptive or can really set an out of system ball. Yes the injury to Nwanebu has an impact but not enough to justify their shaky start.

I've watched a few of 'SC games this year, and they look so uncomfortable on the floor. Think coaches are expecting too much out of their freshman players. L. Gillis might be a great HS player, but she's been asked to carry a big load (passing, jump serving, OH hitting, etc). She will get getter, but still developing her skills at the college level. Serving has also been weak all season long. They either serve too easy or make a service error at a crucial time. Setting has also been weak (why change A. PIzzacecolla (sorry misspelled) in between her college season). She's been deep dish setting all her life and they are asking her to set a different style. Crone has not been impressed me in her 4 years at SC. They should put E. Young in the setting mix, and let her play out her senior year. 'SC offense is so predictable, and never use the middle enough. So tired of waiting for them to play a faster tempo.
Instead of asking players to step up, think it's time coaches to step down and out. Let's recruit a coach that can make a difference at 'SC and develop their players at the next level. Any thoughts...
