USC should set more moonballs.

Based on my model - USC would most likely still get a seed at 13-7, be in consideration at 12-8, and unlikely at 11-9. .500 or better overall record (8 conference wins)and they are in the tournament.

I've watched a few of 'SC games this year, and they look so uncomfortable on the floor. Think coaches are expecting too much out of their freshman players. L. Gillis might be a great HS player, but she's been asked to carry a big load (passing, jump serving, OH hitting, etc). She will get getter, but still developing her skills at the college level. Serving has also been weak all season long. They either serve too easy or make a service error at a crucial time. Setting has also been weak (why change A. PIzzacecolla (sorry misspelled) in between her college season). She's been deep dish setting all her life and they are asking her to set a different style. Crone has not been impressed me in her 4 years at SC. They should put E. Young in the setting mix, and let her play out her senior year. 'SC offense is so predictable, and never use the middle enough. So tired of waiting for them to play a faster tempo. Instead of asking players to step up, think it's time coaches to step down and out. Let's recruit a coach that can make a difference at 'SC and develop their players at the next level. Any thoughts... Agree with some of your points but Mick is not going anywhere till Mick decides he wants to go... As for Young... That is why it is so important to get the right kids to the right schools. I cannot emphasize how important it is to choose the right school. Early commitments are just not what is best for the students.

USC is simply in a rare rebuilding season. Gillis is struggling to kill the ball and you can see her confidence waning. Bricio looks stressed due to the higher expectations and leadership required of her this year. Their setters are well below the standard of a USC-level program as is their libero play. Their middles aren't very dynamic and their freshman of the year is struggling due to lingering injury and the pressure of carrying the team (she doesn't look she enjoys that role). If Mick is to be criticized it would be for the level of setter he has recruited and the fact he didn't have an adequate replacement for Hagglund ready to go this year. There is ZERO leadership on this team. That said, Haley's won ALOT of games and if anyone can figure it out, he can; but at this point, making the NCAA tournament and winning a first round game would be a great goal. They'll be REALLY good in the next few years.

USC struggles continue.Enough cannot be said about losing Shaw and Hagglund. Shaw was a key player even since she was a freshman until she was a 6 rotation OH for the other three years of her career. I'm not really impressed with Anne Marie either. Gillis looks like she's just in too deep.. Southern California is a hot MESS. People will think are we are the same person..........................but everything you write is so right on...................you are more Articulate. schadenfreude is the feeling among alot of other programs. Ive been posting for 4 years that Sara Shaw was the glue for team in the time she spent there.................................same as the great Kaeo Burdine with her great teams.

Any chance Cinnamon Sary can come back? She is still a student at Southern Cal.

They'll be REALLY good in the next few years. I'm pessimistic. Nothing that currently ails them is being fixed via recruiting. He's still just trying to stockpile pin hitters and isn't landing dynamic middles, great setters, or backrow specialists who can play at a championship level. But hey, his classes will always be highly ranked by PrepVB because he lands supposed terminators.

Im going with UA tonight................................my Southern Cal tean was blasted by UCLA. Negative waves coming from the Galen Center......................felt it at the end of last season at Galen. Too much attitude, to much smugness, too much arrogance? Dont know but it is real and it isn't the players. "Negative waves"? Can you elaborate? I can't tell if this is a reference to New Age mysticism or old-school black magic. Ive been going to the games for years..............you can tell when the vibe is wrong. Don't know what is wrong. You ever been hunting, been on the ocean, played really competitive sports..............you can feel things. Joe Montana said he could feel the game, could feel people coming for him.................his magic was off the scale.

Sary didn't continue her playing career at 'SC. I don't know all the details of her departure from the team (prob lack of playing time, and coaches not starting her over Crone). She had a natural setter instinct and 'SC could really use her this season. By end of the day, 'SC can recruit powerful OH Hitters, but it's ball control that matters most. Not sure why they are not playing A. Schmidt more. She looks like a stellar athlete, and seems much more mobile and faster than the current libero. If 'SC A team is not winning, let's give the B team a shot.... might motivate and rejuvenate entire team. The current line up looks frustrated and not having fun on the floor.

USC's struggles has a great deal to do with the loss of Sara, Nat, and the fact that neither of their setters are deceptive or can really set an out of system ball. Yes the injury to Nwanebu has an impact but not enough to justify their shaky start. TrojanSC and BigFan... I think we all agree

Another example of a recruit picking the wrong school? Would SC be having these issues if they didn't split their indoor and sand programs? It looks like their indoor team could use some of those girls on the sand team!

I don't know anything about USC's sand team or players, but I've felt from the start that sand is going to be a drain on indoor volleyball. I hear coaches talk about how playing sand improves a players indoor performance, but, sadly, some players want to plan sand INSTEAD of indoor (Summer Ross). Maybe I'm an old fuddy duddy, but I think sand at most schools is going to have the drawing power of water polo. Whereas, volleyball has the potential to continue to grow and expand and become a major attraction like it already is at places like Nebraska and Hawaii. But sand, at some schools, seems to be causing problems for the indoor program.
