This one's pretty close to a must win if either team wants to win the Big Ten championship. The conference's (and possibly nation's) two craziest student sections will also go at it, with Purdue's Block Party making the trip.

I expect this will be a very tight match. Purdue's statistics are a bit better, but IL has played a harder schedule so far. IL, on the other hand, has a bit of schizophrenia. Purdue has been pretty consistent by comparison. I'm expecting Purdue in 5 at home.

Purdue I think wins this one they are for real. I think the consistency at the setter position gives them the edge Nichol maybe one of the best and least talked about setters in the country. The battle of the RS will be interesting as Drews and McMahon both produce a lot of offense for their teams.

I believe Purdue will win. I believe Purdue will win. I believe Purdue will win. Though I like ILL INI as well.

I'm liking Purdue, but Illinois is not going down without a fight. I eagerly await this match.

Have to go with my Illini at home...and with a lot of other incentives for Illinois to really go after this, there's the added incentive of avenging that awful Illinois effort vs. Purdue last year at our Assembly Hall in the Round of 16!
Go Illini!

I can't wait to see this on BTN. I have no idea who will win but it will be close.

This has become a nice rivalry, fueled by last year's match in the Regional round. Illinois has played some great volleyball. Purdue is young, but actually been very consistent. I like the Chief in 5.

From the outside, looks like a great match. Winner seems to have a real edge up on getting a seed in the tourney, if not both. (I sort of see both teams competing with Nebraska for 3rd and 4th B1G teams seeded, difficult to see 5, but hey, long way to go.......)

I like the Chief in 5. Actually, Purdue's rivalry with Illinois took a giant leap at Purdue when Jeff Hulsmeyer was hired as head coach in 1999 at Purdue. (He was an assistant at IL before that.) I am very glad it has continued, because it has been a great rivalry. Look for the student sections to be talking to each other, and asking BTN Commentator Mike Wolf (@miketwolf) about who is the best, on Twitter. btn.com/2014/10/21/volleyball-report-illinois-hosts-purdue-in-ultra-important-match/On another note, the local paper usually has an article about an IL player going home to play ... here is this year's great article about OH Sam Epenesa... www.jconline.com/story/sports/college/purdue/2014/10/21/epenesa-pulling-together-purdue-volleyball/17688281/Yes, this is a young team. Purdue will win this match if they are serving well that night, I think.

I like Purdue in this match-up from a position standpoint, but playing the Illini at home is a different challenge in itself. I expect the spike squad to help carry the Illini and win this match in 5 but I expect it will be a very well fought match.

I'm surprised Purdue is getting so many votes here while in the PTW thread everyone is picking Illinois.

This is my most eagerly anticipated match of the season so far. If Illinois' middles execute like they have been I think they win this one on the road (in 5). Purdue is a fantastic team but has not been battle-tested to date, I also think their play on the left-side holds them back from being one of the very best teams in the Big Ten. Watched them against PSU and while of course they can alter your game the Purdue OHs hit a lot of balls out and couldn't seem to deliver a kill when necessary like the Birks, Franttis, and Daly Santanas of the world.

I think Illinois wins this. Purdue's 7-1 record is inflated having playing Maryland, Rutgers and Indiana a total of 4 times. They were taken to 5 at home by Ohio State and Michigan. Illinois will be their hardest test yet. If Illinois' pin hitters are on (Birds/McMahon/Criswell), I don't think Purdue has the horses to keep up. Illinois in 4.
