I think Cal Poly has at least one or two losses already. VT is undefeated with wins over Ohio State, Marquette, (twice), Penn State, Grand Valley, and the other teams in their league (Florida, UCF, James Madison, etc.). Air Force beat Cal Poly but also has some losses, including a loss to Sonoma St. (D-II). So I'd say Arizona or VT at #1.

www.nccvl.org/ link to NCCVL D1 D2, men and women results of league matches on the right. Poly has minimal competition in their half of the league. Far Westerns results not included. Vegas will show what several teams really can bring. A number of teams are getting their act together finally, and early season injuries on several teams should see most everyone back. I watched a bunch of vb this last week. The players look like TEAMS now and some good play going on. .....likely the same across the nation.

Just out of curiosity... I would be interested in seeing who everyone thought were the top 3-5 players at each position. Where is there the standout talent that is going to be fun to watch at nationals and vegas?

Any thoughts about East Teams? Penn State, WVU, and V-Tech all had good showings last year in D-I. As did Messiah (winning 2 straight D-II championships) and UMBC in D-II. How are they stacking up?

Any thoughts about East Teams? Penn State coming off an impressive run last year in D-I, Messiah winning 2 straight D-II championships. How are they stacking up? I saw Penn State at Hoosier/Illinois a couple weekends ago and the jury is still out. Their outsides are pretty good- great athletes- but their setter and libero aren't very good. I saw them get destroyed by Virginia Tech- I think the scores were like 25-18 25-13. That being said, Virginia Tech is extremely talented. I mentioned before that one of their middles- Albus- was the most dominant player at the tournament. Their other middle (I think his name is Allen) is one of the best blockers I've seen and together I think they're the best middle combo in the country. Their setter was pretty short- maybe 5'8- but he was athletic and they had the best outside I've seen on the East Coast in Nugent. I was a little let down by Florida, but UCF looked alright. Liberty was okay too, but I think they had a few injuries at the tournament. Maryland and Rutgers both looked solid. Haven't seen Messiah, but one of the Penn State players told me that they lost to both Virginia Tech's A and B team earlier in the year.

Where is there the standout talent that is going to be fun to watch at nationals and vegas? I can only speak on the talent I saw at the Hoosier classic, but for that tournament I would have to say this. OH: Marquette #7 was pretty talented, and Nugent from VT were the ones that caught my eye, also one of the OSU outsides MB: The middles for Oshkosh and VT seemed to be pretty dominant OPP: Missouri had a pretty talented opposite, along with Michigan, and VT S: Of course the Oshkosh setter, but the VT and Marguette setters impressed me as well Lib: Not overly impressed with any of the liberos, but Michigan, Florida, and Liberty's libero's had some pretty impressive ups, to go along with pretty good serve receive. **Also adding that I didn't get to watch every team play in depth, so this is in no way a total tournament combination either.

They have pretty much no weakness so a team is going to have to bring their absolute A game just to even have a chance to win. At least out of the Hoosier Classic teams. Haven't seen Maryland or Rutgers, but the fact that Liberty took Rutgers to five makes me a little skeptical considering their silver finish in their own tourney. For Florida, it's my understanding that they were missing their go-to opposite who I believe was all EIVA at one point, among other missing players, but I will agree that their play didn't warrant much.

Looks like there were some upsets in a couple of conference Finals. Arizona State beat UCSB in the SCCVL final. Purdue beat Minnesota in the Big Ten Final. What happened to UCLA, Arizona, Ohio State, and Wisconsin?

With the rise of NCAA Men's DII & DIII programs, I wonder how much the talent level will drop for NCVF in the next couple of years?
