I am at once deliriously happy and sad that I am missing all the fun of being there. Never thought this day would come again after the disappointment of 2007. I am so proud of this team, and this group of seniors especially. There is more to do, but I think I'll let this soak in a bit.

I'll do this so the badger fans don't have to... I think people are really overrating Wisconsin going into this season just like they did with Michigan last year. Wisconsin will be good and better than Michigan was last season, but I wouldn't expect them to consistently play like they did in the tournament last year. Wisconsin will do better than last year's 12-8 on the fact they play Rutgers and Maryland twice this year. Those 4 matches replace contests vs. traditional B1G teams. IMO, 12-8 last year equals 14-6 this year. I think the preseason predictions in general rely too much on the talent on paper, on lineups. By nature they tend to undervalue the je ne sais quoi. That leads me to ask questions like: 2) Highly likely that the expectations for Wisconsin are unrealistic. Wisconsin needs to consider what happened to Illinois in 2012. This year will be different, and, given that last year was so amazing, different is likely to mean not as good. Not that Carlini isn't for real, but last year was that special year where everything just clicked. The biggest thing that will happen this year is B1G coaches will have spent a lot more effort preparing for Wisconsin and they WILL find vulnerabilities. (For clues, all they have to do is look at Russ Rose's game plan for the NCAA finals.) Last year the B10 coaches were having to convince their teams to take Wisky seriously. This year the players will be really looking forward to playing Carlini and trying to beat her. I think it has been well documented by many posters, Dot, Pelc and Philly, etc. That Wisconsin will not sneak up on anyone this year and that there will be an extra asterisk next to them on every B1G's schedule. Furthermore that the expectations will have changed significantly for that program and it remains to be seen if the team and coaches can deal with that. I think Carlini and Sheff make Wisconsin more of a steady, perennial threat than, say, Michigan or MSU. But we know how incredibly difficult it is to follow a season like Wisconsin had in 2013 with another great season. Gravity is such a powerful force in the B10. People will be gameplanning MUCH more seriously for Wisconsin this year and that has a big effect. So much of the time, you see someone who has a fabulous freshman year come back to earth their soph year. PSU's McClendon was a great example. And it has nothing to do with how hard they work or how talented they are. All of a sudden expectations are unrealistically high, you're expected to play like an all-American every night, you have major leadership responsiblities on the team, and other teams are gameplanning just to throw you off rhythm. I'd be surprised if Carlini doesn't experience something like that this year. As others have noted, for Wisconsin to get through the B10 with, say, 5 or 6 losses, is a great season. To go to the NCAAs and make a regional final is a great achievement. But the expectations for Wisky are so high. If they lose 5 games and lose in a regional final, it will be a big disappointment but it really shouldn't be. I bet Carlini makes it back to the Final Four and maybe to the national final at least once more in her career. But it won't be this year. The rest of the conference is going to spend a lot more time figuring out Wisconsin's weaknesses. Then of course there was this volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/54896/2014s-biggest-flop

Well, Schadenfreude is nice, and it is the currency of the internets apparently. But I'm just really really happy for our seniors. They epitomize teamwork, toughness, and sacrifice and they deserve every square inch of that trophy. I was pretty sure that the NCAA run was not an accident last year, that there was a deeper foundation upon which that was built, but it can be tough navigating the path from surprise package to favorites. I'm glad for them that my faith wasn't misplaced. We'll see if they can keep it up, but for now I'm just giddily happy for them.

As a Penn State fan, I tip my hat to the Badger Women. You did what you had to do to win the Big 10 Championship. You will have the banner to raise. My wish is that Wisconsin and Penn State have a rematch in the National Championship game.

Congratulations to the Badgers on their outright title. I am so proud of them and happy for them. It is hard to improve by 7 conference wins from one year to the next, but to do it TWICE in a row is pretty amazing. This team has just been really fun to watch this season, as they have played really well as a unit and so often have picked each other up when someone had an off night. I hope they can keep their run going in the tournament and get to where they want to be.

Wisconsin is the best team in the country for 3 rotations but they lack the horses to win the next 3 against WA/Stan/PSU. Can't wait to see what the Chef cooks up to win in those other 3.
Will WI break from their traditional slide-outside spread to beat the big teams/blocks that they haven't seen in a while? Does Carlini dump more? Last year in the NC Thompson moved around more than I saw this year. Sandbagging for the big dance? Hope so. It'll take something special to win the 2 hitter rotations against some of these physical teams..

Congratulations from Illini Land to the Badgers! So well-deserved. My two favorite Badger seniors are Illinoisans (?) Courtney Thomas and Ellen Chapman. Especially happy for these two and all that they have been through in their four years at UW. At this point, I am sure they would both say it was all worth it!
Best of luck in the NCAAs...except if/when you face the Illini!

And yes to the National Championship rematch (though the bracket gods probably have something to say about that, as well as all the other teams)

Well that took a lot of research by vbnerd to come up with those quotes. But if you looked hard enough, you would probably find something along those lines by me, although not with that much doubt, since I actually saw them in person 17 times last year and saw their improvement.
I am thrilled to be utterly and totally wrong.

Here are some photos from the match last night. www.wiscnews.com/sports/college/volleyball/collection_b3b435af-5ca6-55d0-8a36-e1e9f37db2b2.html#11Photo 12 of 18 was one of the spectacular plays of the match. For those of you who haven't been there, the Field House has a wooden playing floor that is 2" above the concrete, so players have to stay on that floor when chasing down balls. Tay is chasing down a shanked pass, and she was teetering with her foot on the very edge of the floor when she passed it. It was a total wide receiver move, the way they know where exactly their feet are and come down just inside the boudary lines of the end zone when catching a pass. Taylor knew exactly where her feet were and made sure to pass the ball before she went off onto the concrete.

Just saw this. The looks on the faces of the women in the front row facing Morey during that save are just priceless. I cheered loudly when Morey made this play last night.
The last image in this series is just heart breaking to me. Really captures the bittersweet aspect of senior night.

Yes, it really does.
College is such a weird moment in time. You spend all kinds of time with people, and then in an instant, you all leave one another.
And then in adulthood, a similar block of four years happens, and not much transpires during that block, depending on where you are in your life.
