Meat grinder schedule, yes, the ACC is not the B1G or Pac-12, but still tough teams, and a solid Louisville team is only .500 overall. Imagine if Louisville improves and ND gets turned around with a great coach hire...even tougher to win I still think the ACC warrants a couple more bids into the tournament. Even teams in the lower bottom of the ACC are still better than these mini-conference champions. As are the lower division schools in Big Ten, Big 12, SEC that didn't get bids. It is what it is.

I'm pretty interested to see what happens here, especially given that Wisconsin has another 3 years of a 4-year preconference tournament deal with ND. They have some strong young players, including a libero who picks up everything. I hope they get a strong coach to fire up these players and juice up recruiting, and become competitive in the ACC soon.

I'll ask you this, could you reallistically win a national championship at Notre Dame? I don't know if they could win a NC there, but couldn't they achieve the success of say a Florida? I think that's doable. I think all you need to answer that question, is to look at how many womens team's on that campus who are competing at that level. It says the following, Notre Dame understands what it takes, ND has the resources and desire to do so. If they get behind the program at the level they are capable with it is a job where you can win titles, and compete for them annually.

How many National Championship for the ACC in volleyball? ZERO, like in NONE, like in NADA, like in NO WAY HOW many FINAL FOUR teams from the ACC : One Florida State That means the ACC IS MEDIOCRE in volleyball. Might that change, anything is possible. Would be surprised if any of the ACC teams get to the Final 8. Current history suggests that all that is changing quickly. ACC is ten times the league it was 5 years ago.

I don't know that they "should" be, but they "could" be. Notre Dame has been a powerhouse in women's basketball and women's soccer for several years. That tells me they have put in the commitment and resources that resulted in winning national championships in those sports. Why volleyball hasn't had that same success/reputation has to be due to the coaching/recruiting, IMO. Notre Dame gets huge TV money for its football program, and their recent tie-ins with the ACC probably netted them more money than they were getting from the Big East. So, they should be able to afford to pay the new head volleyball coach whatever the market demands. If you want a Top 10 program, than you need to pay a Top 10 salary. That's no guarantee, but that's how you land a marquee coach. Or, can try and hire and up-and-comer and reward them based on the success they have at your school over the years. Regionally, I wonder if Kentucky's head coach would be a good fit at ND. Hard to argue with the turnaround in Lexington. agreed on all points.

Since Swarbrick is a die hard Indiana guy, he would do well in tapping into the Ball State/Muncie coaching tree. While there are obviously very strong coaches with Indiana ties, Notre Dame isnt an Indiana or even regional program, and that is one of its great appeals, and why it is a great job. You could sign a top player out of LA, Texas, Florida, on top of being smack dab in the middle of all the talent in Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan etc....... If they pay (no reason to believe they wont) this is a top ten job. Why do people think Muncie is the solution to all coaching problems? Notre Dame is a national job which requires national recruiting. Having excellent connections to one club will not make you successful. I'd rather have Reed or Darty in there then someone who claims they're from a top club so I must be a hell of a recruiter. If I put money on it I bet most of them have personalities of lima beans. I don't care if you said you're team was top 10 blocking in the nation. Show me the money and get me the recruits first. I'd rather have someone that can tap into recruits mothers on a national level then someone who claims they can tap into one club. Let my hatred be heard.

Nobody is throwing names out there except for Craig Skinner.
I got one: Brittany Dildine. (mind you, Badger fans would wail and rent their clothing, well at least I would)
Discuss (Indiana native, Purdue alum, WI asst coach):

If you want to bring in female candidates, Christy Johnson, perhaps Beth Launiere, people with more experience.

I have to think that it's no coincidence that Notre Dame getting worse has happened at the same time the B1G has created its own television network and drawn nearly even with the Pac-10 in terms of volleyball talent. If you're a highly-rated high school player from the Midwest, where would you rather go - a B1G school where you can play against great competition and be on TV all throughout the Midwest, or Notre Dame, which plays in the mediocre ACC? Staying out of the B1G might be good for Notre Dame football, but it definitely doesn't benefit many of their other sports. Mediocre ACC? ? Lol. All the teams came from B1G like Louisville and Notre Dame were/are mediocre compared to top ACC teams like UNC, FSU and Duke. Also ACC teams has a winning record against B1G teams this year. You have no idea how strong and competitive ACC volleyball is. Conference third Duke lost to Stanford 3-1 in a very competitive match this year and FSU beat FL who beat no:2 seed Texas. Um, we're talking about why Notre Dame has fallen off in the last five years. I don't think the ACC's volleyball performance this year played much of a role in Notre Dame's recruiting for the last five years.

I think will be an exceptional head coach someday, but not at this time, at that level. I think she'd tell you that.

There are so many long-time assistants that have shown no signs of stepping into a HC position. I'd have to assume people like Jay Mansfield (who has been at Stanford for 13 years), Eric Sullivan, etc. could land big jobs all over the country if they wanted them.

Ironically I think the long time assistants sometimes have a harder time landing those jobs. They get pegged as "assistants" and their names don't get tossed around as top candidates which sadly doesn't make them good candidates when jobs do open. There is a reason the same people's names come up for jobs, and thats because in many cases they get their names thrown out there and it appears they are coaches in high demand.

Then there are there cases where schools go after people like Denise and Salima who have been very candid about not wanting a HC job. Maybe Salima will take over for Russ when the time comes, but I have to imagine those two have been approached countless times for Big jobs over the years.
