Hunter is an ELITE! Amber smashed some crazy balls in the tourney, she was really pulling it together at the end there I thought. She played right where we needed her. I want her to be an All- American next year. I'm stating that right now. I'm her #1 fan! I have heard other Husker fans say that about Hunter as well. The thing with the Big ten...it is all relative. Because I think any setter who starts for a big ten team is obviously very very good vb player. But you have to compare them relative to one another to really say "elite" You have Carlini at Wisconsin Jordyn Poulter at Illinois (#1 ranked highschool setter) Sam Swenson at Minnesota (#2 ranked Highschool setter) Taylor Tashima at Northwester (who was the 2nd setter to poulter on Under 18 USA team) I'm not saying Hunter isn't elite...I have never seen her play. But to me "elite" means 1st or 2nd..maybe top 3 setter in big ten. And if Hunter is actually Elite (top 3 setter) next year in big ten....then why did Cook sit her on the bench when he knew that Mary wasn't "elite" If I recall Mary was struggling early on in the season...where there still would have been time to make the move to Hunter. With an "elite" setter Nebraska could have made a very strong run for national championship. More tunnel vision from the Husker faithful. It is all Mary's fault. Not anyone elses. There were several reasons Nebraska was inconsistent during the season to put them all on Mary is totally unfair. Without addressing the other issues there will only be limited improvement.

Mary's setting was certainly the primary problem in most matches where Nebraska played terribly. The only problem? No. The problem which most affected performance? Surely. People will be surprised how much more diverse and efficient the offense will be with Hunter at the helm.

The more important question that has to be asked and has probably already been asked with the departure of Mary is who's going to lead? If you asked the current set of players to write down their top six best teammates who would they write down(sans Mary)? If Foecke is playing middle which sounds like she's be on the court who sits that played this year? Haggarty/Hall? Does Larson hang around for another year? Going to be an interesting spring even without the freshman there working with Hunter.

A few things which have been touched on repeatedly is that pretty much everywhere around the WWW is the opinion that Hunter has a faaaaaaaaaar better connection with the middles than Pollmiller. I'll be most curious to see how that plays out. My own observations are mostly twofold. 1)----NOBODY has stepped up to fill Robomatic's floor generalship. Robo was simply an amazing floor general in addition to her superb ALL AROUND play athleticism which leads to observation #2)---Amber and the rest of the front row players need to work extremely hard at becoming faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar more complete all-around players. Robo was every bit as good a defensive player as she was an offensive threat. Nebraska needs more of that from it's current roster. That would also lead to better serve receive/passing and a far more deadly use of the back row attack which in turn makes defending the Husker offense more complicated.

While not intending to throw Mary under the bus as there where a variety of reasons for the struggles Nebr had this year, like Jason, I think people will notice a definite improvement in the setting with Hunter on the court. Another thing I suspect might be an issue are some attitudinal problems with a player or two. There seemed to be moments when Kadie just seemed to thinking of something other than what she was doing on the court. At times she was very lackadaisical when receiving serve, not moving her feet or making much of an attempt to get into proper mechanical position. There were also times after a hitting or service error where if one were judging by her appearance, she just didn't seem to care. Of course my reading of her non-verbal clues could be way off, however she isn't someone who had to deal with a lot of adversity on the court while in high school and maybe she just needs a little more time to mature in that area.
In any event, I am very excited to see how the incoming freshman contribute as well as any possible transfers. The continued improvement of Kelsey Fien is also something to ponder. I don't believe she is going to be satisfied with her first team All B1G status and will continue to work hard to improve her game. I also believe she might be the one who steps up and assumes more of a leadership role. Hunter is another player who I believe has that capability. And while nothing to be excited about, it will be interesting to see who, if anyone, transfers out of NE.

I would be pretty surprised if one or two players didn't leave Nebraska this off-season, even if only because they've had a transfer for what, five years in a row?

Ostrander has a year left, depends on how valuable playing time is to her, but doubt she leaves. Boender will stay for now. Larson could look around but she loves the program. I'd think someone would be looking for playing time elsewhere, but you never know. Everyone seems to be enjoying the experience.

She redshirted so she will have 4 years of eligibility. I can see a DS leaving the program.

There were definitely other problems, but that was primary.

I'm not saying any of them will leave, just saying they would probably be most likely. I know Hall and Kiel were ready to leave after last season. Mel didn't look like she was having much fun out there this season when she did get playing time. There was talk of Larson being a star but it's hard to think that she will see much of the court next season with Foecke coming in and several players who have more playing experience. The outsides probably aren't actually leaving but they are going to have to work extra hard in the off season to get a crack at the starting line up that seemed to be pretty established at the end of the season.

If Boender left this off season, I'd be surprised. Cook is fairly high on her and thinks she'll be in the conversation next year.
Larson or Keil, I could see. One of the DS's like Ethridge or Townsend, I could see. Even Albrecht if she'd rather be a six-rotation OH somewhere that has a scholarship for her.
Ostrander is a senior, a captain, and has an academic scholarship, so I can't see her leaving.
