I think Amber really started to improve her play at the end of the season. She had a good NCAA tournament. Amber will be on the court somehow. RS or OH. who knows. She is my X player. I secretly root for her all the time. She will have a break out season soon. Me too....I think she is underrated by Husker fans. Wouild like to see her at OH position opposite Kadie. Interesting that John avoided that for sister rivalry. I would encourage the opposite. I think that competition would be great.

Interesting considering at the end of the year, Fien was probably the better attacker then Kadie. Now if you move Amber left opposite Kadie, is Fien out of the line-up? You don't see many all big ten players get moved to the bench for players who struggled to play at a high level. Sure doesn't sound like a very wise move. We don't know if Amber can be a solid leftside hitter at this level, and we are now putting her in for a first team all Big player??? Nebraska has every bit the need in the middle than they do at RS. I think it remains to be seen where they play Foecke and I think it should remain to be seen.

Hard to say Fien was the better attacker at the end of the year. Fien came up big with some great kills, notably at the end of the 4th set vs. Washington. But surprisingly, Amber was the most efficient pin for NU in the tournament.

Mikaela Foecke is WELL deserving Gatorade Player of the year and regardless of her being from a small school 1A in Iowa the girl has world experience and you can see from this state championship clip she can BRING IT!!! This is definitely a grab like past Iowans Lisa Reitsma and Nancy Metcalf only I think better. I'm super-stoked for next year 2015 for Nebraska-with the twins taking sets from Hunter (like they have since probably 7th grade) I think the hitting numbers only climb for NU. Should be fun to watch it all fall together. 2 seasons to the Elite 8 might pay off next year-maybe the Huskers can take one more step and get back to the Final 4 again. GBR!! www.iptv.org/sports/story.cfm/full_program/12416/igv_20141114_105_1a/video

Q: Your future collegiate coach at Nebraska, John Cook, has praised you as a 'small-town Iowa kid.' No matter what happens in the future—Olympics, pro volleyball, etc.—will you always be that small town kid? A: They say most people want to leave small town Iowa, but I love it. My dream is to come back here and live and stay. I love this community and I love the people. It's something I'll always carry with me. Right up until the time I come back. Attachments:

The fact Amber was the best of the three tells you something about taking a small sampling.

I think we would all take that.

It will be very interesting to see what position both Amber and Foecke end up next year. They're open to moving some folks around to get the best lineup on the floor. And the middles' numbers next year could be much improved with Hunter setting and another great back-row player in Maloney passing serves - an area in which Nebraska really struggled in their losses.

Also, as to the China discussion earlier in the thread, while Cook thought they played great volleyball in Asia and had their best Asia trip yet, the staff will admit it threw a wrench in their off-season recovery and led to some sluggish performances early in the year. If they had it to do over again, they would've tried to take the Asia trip earlier in the year and leave more time for recovery in the summer.

Yes, Kenzie along with Justine - then add Annika, Sydney , and Alexa - Nice! The scary thing about Mikaela is she's able play any one of the 3 positions across the front line. This could really be exploited to create some match-up problems for other teams. * Really like Annika; she was every bit as good as some posters alluded to!

I really hope Maloney can translate to the college game well. She is extremely quick on defense and a great receiver. Nebraska will improve their passing for 2015.

In the tournament Player S K E TA Pct. Kelsey Fien 15 46 26 133 .150 Amber Rolfzen 15 33 15 95 .189 Kadie Rolfzen 15 52 22 163 .184
Hard to say Fien was the better attacker at the end of the year. Fien came up big with some great kills, notably at the end of the 4th set vs. Washington. But surprisingly, Amber was the most efficient pin for NU in the tournament. As already mentioned by DMT, it's hard to draw any definitive conclusions from a sample as small as the four NCAA tournament matches. Just for perspective from a larger sample, here are the conference statistics for Nebraska's three primary pin hitters: Name | K | E | TA | % | Fien | 166 | 51 | 379 | .303 | Kadie | 246 | 86 | 646 | .248 | Amber | 151 | 57 | 417 | .225 |
It should be noted that Fien saw limited action in the first eight Big Ten matches. The bulk of her numbers were posted in roughly the 2nd half of the conference season, beginning with the match at Minnesota. That being said, Kadie does carry a significantly larger overall load, especially when you consider her role in serve receive and as a six-rotation primary passer.
Among the keys to success in 2015 will be: 1) Whether Fien can produce at a similar level for the entire season; and, 2) Whether Kadie and Amber can improve their hitting efficiency numbers by something in the range of 40-60 points. Those outcomes would go a long way towards getting the Huskers over the next hurdle and back to the Final Four.

It took the much vaunted Stanford class of 2012 (Inky, Burgess, Howard, Bugg and Mcgehee), then the #1 prepvolleyball recruiting class two years to get back to the final 4 after 6 years of absence.
I can see the same thing for the #1 recruiting class of 2013 led by Kadie Rolfzen. Nebraska will have the pieces for a run at the tournament next year. PSU loses Hancock, Grant and Gonzalez and Wisconsin graduates 7 seniors.

Amber needs to become an X factor, she has it in her! Husker's need her.
