Historically the team usually picks a libero who can play the position for at least two years, so I think Lainy will be L and Kendall the DS. No, Lainy is not ready yet. Kendall's technique , feet and reading ability took a massive jump last year. Her numbers in the last two rounds of the NCAAS were excellent. Agreed. Penn State has rebuilding weeks (preconference), not years. I can't imagine Russ not putting his best players on the floor each year in the hope of building for the future. An exception perhaps is Hancock replacing Carpenter in 2011, but that is open for debate.

Also in my opinion Lainy def has the better serve

I have yet to see anyone offer opinions on back row and setting 2015 starters based on observing the team play in the spring or practice.

Psu is so young. Only really have three upper classmen with relevance ( Courtney, Whitney, k pierce). The couple juniors they have will never be starters. So Mostley sophomores and freshman. Gonna be a fun next few years to see what happens now that that sophomore class has already tasted the title in their first year. I'm guessing reed will get a chance to maybe make some noise this year with Grant gone. Someone has to fill that spot

Exactly how were you able to measure her technique, feet, and reading ability last year enough to judge a "massive jump?" How much of a jump is considered "massive?" And, you had her statistics from the tournament? In what ways is L. Pierce not ready? How recently have you seen these athletes for you to judge this?

Also, the best player at the start of the season may not be the best player when the tournament starts.

Who are the projected starters for this season? I have yet to see any footage on Weiskircher so I'm not sure if she is better than Rivera. Courtney, Frannti, Washington, Whitney, Pierce are locks. Lee,Pierce,Thelen,Weiskircher,Rivera will be in the mix. Edit- Muller too. I don't have any info to believe any others will push in at this point.....yet. You don't seem to have any expectations for Reed. I thought her rehab was on schedule.

Look all of what I said is speculation based on guess work around what I have seen, heard, read and feel about this crew over the past year. Up to this point that is what I would guess. However, many things will adjust, change and settle in as this season progresses, as much or probably more than in recent years. That being said it is probably best to follow Edgar Allen Poe's advice on what we all hear and see, which is probably sounds advise for most everything that is written on vtalk.

Speculation is what everyone has to do with PSU b/c so little info is forthcoming. I have a hunch that Lainy Pierce will be one of the most improved players on team this year.

I heard the reed may be the most athletic player on the team. Also heard she can get up in the air higher then anyone else. Gonna be interesting

If PSU can get quality setting they will probably be the favorite to repeat, otherwise the season could be a donnybrook event. The roster is loaded with athletic ladies who can play multiple positions. Very Interesting situation.

Correct. The idea that Wisconsin had no defense for her was what I was referring. She started off hot, but Wisconsin was able to force her into errors by the end of the match, which you can tell by her error numbers and her hitting percentage. Her biggest contributions in that match were intangible, and not because of a blistering offensive performance. At least not after the blistering offensive performance in the 2nd set. What about the third where she was blocked four times, hit another ball long, and only registered one kill?

At least not after the blistering offensive performance in the 2nd set. What about the third where she was blocked four times, hit another ball long, and only registered one kill? regardless of what she did in the third, she played a HUGE role in winning that match by giving them a big lift and energy. She did EVERYTHING you would want a player to do coming in off the bench. That performance says a lot about her mentally, it had been a while since she was on the floor in a critical match, she was ready, and she sure as heck wasn't afraid. You want subs to be able to spell a player who is struggling and interject some energy to the group on the floor, I give Lee an A plus on both.
