How many cameras will be required to cover all those scenarios?? How many schools are going to spring for all that for VB?
The review in tennis is very quick, technologically amazing and entertaining, it's a big plus because it's exciting to see where the ball actually landed, and how incredibly close the calls are. It's called Hawk-Eye and it ISN'T simply reviewing a recording; it uses computer simulation to project the contact point for the ball.
If only used for line calls, using technology similar to tennis, it could be a plus, but anything else is going to be a negative in terms of VB's watch-ability.

I understand but after the initial purchase....? We already have the net cam. Ultimately I would like to see it AT LEAST find its way into the NCAA regional and finals. The cost would not matter to an individual school.

Bet I know who got this started:) Probably UNC at the end of the 1st set in the Regional Final... Haha I don't even remember the call. But I was talking about Elliott, as he was quoted in the postmatch Press conference after BYU saying there should be instant replay

I think the men tried this out at the Outrigger tournament in Hawaii. It was a bit confusing, even for the coaches, but I can see some merit. There was a bit of trouble because there needed to be enough evidence for the referees to change their decision. But even on some line calls and with all the cameras, it was a bit difficult to tell if a ball was in or out.

Idealy, it will provide LESS arm-chair ref engagement.

Big Ten coaches doing a significant amount of research on making it happen. It is very expensive.

@$$%*!*.....................leave the game alone. The game will become unwatchable like basketball, baseball and football have become. With McLaughlin moving to ND a clear signal was sent to proceed forward with this initiative.

The Pac 12 does not need this........................every COACH will use everyone of the GOD....things if it is warranted or not. LOOK at me I am engaged and coaching!

Tennis has the computer animation that is fast and clear. Actually is exciting to watch. I definitely agree. It sort of adds a bit of extra excitement to the game of tennis. The crowds are usually clapping and cheering throughout the replay making it fun.

Tennis has the computer animation that is fast and clear. Actually is exciting to watch. I want to watch the game not some bull%*$# replay. That's the point; in tennis the replay is so fast and conclusive it doesn't interfere with the flow of the match at all; from challenge to decision takes less than a minute, not much different than the time between points anyway. Plus the fans can see the replay on the big screen so it becomes part of the entertainment.

I would make it line calls only like World League and tennis unless similar technology can be developed similar for block touches and ball hitting the floor before being touched. I would immediately display video on overhead scoreboards available in most power conference arenas so spectators and refs can see. That is, it must be clear, unambiguous, and fast.

You know, any decent video game designer could make a kick-ass animation of the tennis ball either touching or missing the line. But that wouldn't actually mean that it *did* touch or miss the line. That's one of the things I don't like about the tennis system, the fact that a computer animation is shown rather than the actual replay. It's kind of like trusting the results from electronic voting machines.
