Purdue is off to a good start....starting the season 3-0! The team looked pretty good but had some bumps, but it's good to have the first weekend done with and see what they need to work on to be even better. So glad the volleyball season has begun!

Stahl looked worlds better over the weekend compared to last year - I was hoping we'd see this from her - very good to see. Kudos to her earning MVP of the tournament.
Surprised to see how the middles underperformed - new setter - I know - it will get better.
Did Evans win the starting spot outright or is Dimke hurt? She wasn't in uniform - interesting.
Loved seeing Smith - she will definitely be in the starting rotation soon. It will be interesting to see who she will be replacing. Hate to say it, since she's a senior, but I think at this stage in the game she will replace Epenesa.

Let's hope they don't fall to SLU like they did last year... That was probably one of the games that cost them the trip to the tournament.
Hope Alexa gets to start, but since Epenesa is from St. Louis, I'm sure she's working really hard to ensure she's gonna stay in.

Lydia Dimke was not in uniform for this weekend for unspecified medical reasons. They are really emphasizing HIPPA rules.
Ashley Evans did start the first set of the Alumnae match a week ago. So, that indicated to me she won the starting setter role. She played really well this weekend. She has a variety of good serves, too.
Both are great athletes for Purdue and will see action.
But, because of the fantastic Annie Drews as RS, a 6-2 is not likely this year.
But, I could see it next year. Both setters are dynamic & fun to watch!

So, PrepVolleyball ranked Purdue in the Top Ten...
#9
AVCA Poll

"Purdue was ranked in the Top 25 throughout the 2014 regular season, peaking with a No. 7 ranking on Sept. 1, before falling out of the rankings after missing the NCAA Tournament. The Boilermakers had been ranked in 61 consecutive polls from Nov. 29, 2010 through Dec. 1, 2014, before being left out of the rankings in the final 2014 poll, released after the season. "

So, PrepVolleyball ranked Purdue in the Top Ten... #9 AVCA Poll 24 Interesting how Purdue was 7th in preseason poll in Big 10 & was 7th Big 10 team in AVCA ranking #24. Tough conference.

If there is anything anyone should know, it's that Purdue will always finish higher than ranked by the coaches in the preseason.

What fun to watch the latest 3 videos... twitter.com/PurdueVBI can't seem to link them from twitter without them being huge! I am glad to see that the "Take 5" sessions with Coach Dave Shondell, are going to continue to be done, like last year. And I like the format of the "meet the players" this year! Last year it was a session of interviews, which was nicely done; but, to see how the girls really like and respect each other, in their own words? Awesome. It is called "Teammate Talk". It seemed like BYU had an excellent scouting report and exposed the flaws in Purdue. Coach Shondell said that it was a winnable game, but BYU was just the better team. I really wished that Purdue would have won against all of their opponents, but hopefully they will just get better and better. They really bounced back with the win against SLU. I was listening to the commentators on the radio and they said that no matter win or lose, this game will be good for Purdue's RPI. How can it still be good for Purdue even when they lost the game?

"RPI is made up of three components: 25 percent comes from a team's own winning percentage, 50 percent from its opponents' winning percentage, and 25 percent from of its opponents' opponents' winning percentage. "
Losing to a really good opponent is worth more than winning against a poor opponent.
But, you have to have a minimum .500 record to make the NCAA Tournament. You have to have enough wins to cover your possible losses once you hit the Big Ten part of the schedule.
