Nollan definitely carries the biggest credentials of the group, but it's hard for me to imagine he would stick around UCI for very long. Plus, I'd be a little afraid he'd bring Haley's moon ball offense with him. I really liked how Paula slowly but steadily increased the level of offensive sophistication over the last couple of years, and I hope the new coach continues along that path.

Kelly Wing at the pin, Ashlie Hain setting and Amanda Vazquez in the middle. Those were some great times for UCI. Ashlie Hain was 1st Team All Big West setter who still holds UCI's all time career assists record. She's also a past winner of UCI's Athlete of the Year. I guess you've been following Anteater volleyball for a while, huh?
Who would you pick as the all-time UCI women's all-time team? I'm thinking you gotta have Kelly Wing and Ashlie Hain, maybe Pestolesi and Winkler. You mentioned Vasques in the middle. I thought Shannon Fleming had a terrific senior year a short while back at middle. Who else?

I don't think I'm qualified to pick an UCI all-time team. UCI women's volleyball has been around like 40 years and I've only followed for like one fourth that time.
I might have Pestolesi coming off the bench to use her big serve or use her as a defensive specialist that can attack from the back row. LOL
I might go with Lauren Kellerman, who made 1st Team All Big West three times, at OH2.
Fleming would have to sit on the bench behind Whitney Pavlik who played the middle well for UCI after Vazquez.
I just wanna add Kristin Winkler is one of my all time favorite UCI athletes in any sport. She came in as a walk-on but graduated as an All American and Big West all time career leader in digs.

The finalists were Lauren Sewell, Ashley Hain, and Tim Nollan. Expect an announcement next week. My guess is they will go with a female. 10 years ago probably not.

If they go with Nolan he does bring the advantage in recruiting players, he has a lot of contacts.

If alum Ashlie Hain is the next UCI head coach as an UCI fan I love the hire!
UCI men's tennis just won the Big West regular season title. By the way all 3 coaches are proud UCI alums.
I think the model of hiring alums has worked very, very well for UCI. David Kniffin for men's volleyball is the latest example. But UCI also has alums Mike Edles for women's tennis and Dan Klatt for women's water polo, two successful coaches on a national level. Plus UCI baseball which just went to the College World Series last season is grooming former UCI Big West Player of the Year Ben Orloff to be the next head coach. If you love the place you're at, you just have extra motivation and determination to succeed.

If they go with Nolan he does bring the advantage in recruiting players, he has a lot of contacts. They are taking so long, the only one that would be great as far as recruiting would be Nolan. He already has a list of players that he knows about and UCI would not be so late in the recruiting process. I'm sure Lauren has some lists, but not as long as Nolan's. Don't know the other one... Looks like she got offered, I'm sure she will be great as an alumni, but they missed a lot of recruiting already. Nolan would be great!

That's not true. UCI didn't miss a lot of recruiting.
UCI is already set to bring in 6 freshman for 2015-16.
Next season UCI has 2 seniors scheduled to graduate. But UCI already has 2 verbals for 2016-17 to fill those 2 spots.
So the new UCI head coach will take over recruiting for 2017-18. Still time for that.

I would have to agree with Gouci about the recruiting: according to Rich Kern, there are already several solid recruits committed for this fall and for 2016 as well. Whomever* the new coach is, there will be ample time to resume recruiting. More evidence that Paula left the program in much better shape that she found it, particularly in terms of the raw talent on the floor.
* or "whoever". I never know. Whatever.

I got out ahead of conversations that needed to be had with existing schools and players.

You may not believe me when I say this but I didn't think Paula Weishoff would work out. Often, you need the right combination of factors to find success. You could be a star one minute and a goat the next.
