I think the real issue is that we like to compare DH to our society's ideal of a submissive and compliant woman. "She's got an attitude" or "diva" are just other ways of saying she didn't conform to your expectations of how a woman should act.
It's frustrating to read certain posters preach about how DH should act when the truth is that if it was a man with the same history of actions he'd probably be categorized completely differently.

Here is what does make me mad. I don't hate Hooker but I do absolutely hate her attitude. Karch, when he was a player, was tireless in his promotion of volleyball and he was also an incredible ambassador for the sport. Do you have any idea how many hours he spend responding to letters written to him by young players and fans. He has paid his dues and then some. I would think people in the volleyball community with this knowledge would not only support him but applaud him. He deserves that. To question his judgement constantly on the biggest online site for the sport is insulting to his years of commitment. This is also why coaches are becoming more and more difficult to find for sports. They are not respected by self appointed experts who are positive they know more. Good Lord. What? How can you argue that you hate Hooker's attitude but that Karch was a great ambassador as a player? Seriously? How in the heck were those temper tantrums diplomatic? One thing to be in your 20's and throw a tantrum, but at 45 years old in a washed up AVP game? Hooker simply can't come close to that.

Karch was not a saint, but the 2 really don't compare as far as attitude come to mind.

Destinee Hooker @destineehooker 7h7 hours ago I find it hilarious when ppl say they know why I'm not national team.... Umm no you don't. Just leave it alone and let me live my life. She posted this on tweeter today Define ppl (people), please. Aw. Look who started asking politely for a definition rather than irrationally assuming the worst. Proud of you. Obviously, her use of "ppl" = the idiots on Volleytalk who irrationally assume the worst of people's characters and situations.

Im not going to prop of Hooker to be a saint, because quite frankly she's not. But, I don't think she warrants the criticism she gets on this board from a lot of posters. Sure she has an attitude, but logan tom isn't always the most pleasant to be around, and she never gets hate. Granted, the two attitudes are different, but regardless, I think a lot of the hooker hate stems from what team she played for in college.
I respect Karches decision about Destinee. He's the coach. I hope one day they can come to some sort of agreement and she can be back on the team, because its the best thing for team USA, but until then, whats done is done. I wish Karch and the team nothing the best, and I wish Hooker nothing the best. She has had an enormous amount of spotlight on her since she entered college and more so after that, and while she may like it, its indeed stressful

Obviously, her use of "ppl" = the idiots on Volleytalk who irrationally assume the worst of people's characters and situations. So hasty to judge. I'm on Destinee's side on this issue (and Logan's too, or have you forgotten?) I was suggesting that there are people who know what happened. I was also assuming the poster was hating on Destinee, which appears to have been incorrect based on subsequent posts (well, I understand why some people hate on her, but it was my assumption about the poster's intent that was incorrect.) Admitting you're wrong is quite liberating. You should try it.

Do you guys ever grow tired of making excuses?

More excuses.

I'm surprised that Hooker who has such a huge social media presence and is known to speak her mind hasn't revealed why she isn't on the national team. This could be because she's hoping to be back on the team... But if she doesn't make the Rio team and the USA team doesn't get the gold medal, I won't be too surprised if she spills.

Many athletes either don't give autographs or now charge for them under controlled circumstances. An example is at an organized meet and greet function. A reason given is that many so called fans put the autographed item up on Ebay. Not fair to the real fan who wants something in their collection from their favorite.

Or maybe you're just a little quick to judge Destinee

Do you guys ever grow tired of making excuses? Karch is and was as individualistic as Destinee is. Anyone who knows him knows that. Doug Beale certainly knew that he was a difficult team-mate, but he also understood that Karch's contributions to the team were more significant than his detractions. If you want to argue that Destinee's contributions would be less than her detractions, that is one thing, but there are certainly people who would disagree.

Bottom Line....Karch is the coach and he has rules that he expects his players to follow. If all the other players can comply, so can Destinee Hooker or is she exempt because she is good? Yes or no?

He was playing for US Volleyball at the time and at the height of his career and I was a nobody. I thought it was incredibly classy despite his schedule.
